Default Plug and Play ECU?

I have done a bit of reading and searching, but I am pretty confused. With my last car there were companies out there that sold base level performance tuned PCM/ECUs. It added some timing and fuel and some other minor things and gave a nice little boost esspecially according to the "butt dyno". The actual numbers were usually 8-12HP. Is there a similar product for the S2000?

I am not trying to start a flame war as to which tuner does a better job (last car there were two very big camps and they'd get into it a lot). Just looking for some straight forward info to get started with. Thanks.

you can get a piggyback such as Apexi VAFC that may give slight gains when properly tuned by modulating the AF ratio and lowering vtec point. If you have an 06, you can get a hondata reflash of the stock ECU. If you want to spend big bucks, you can get a replacement ECU from Js or Mugen, or the AEM EMS unit. I would not recommend the latter options as primary mods because the price to gain ratio is extremely low for NA cars.

Thanks for the response. With the Apexi VAFC do I need to tune it myself or does it come with some "stock" improved tune?

you could get some 'maps' from people on here that have tuned their car with it to give you a good baseline, but its better to get it tuned by a professional since every car will be a little different. Also, you will need to reset your ECU ever so often because it will compensate for the changes implemented by the vafc and try to change the AF ratio back to stock
