In the late fall last year in Philly, I was waiting (top down/laid back) at a traffic signal to make a left turn. I saw Officer Bob behind me. When the light changed, the opposing car did not move... I assumed waiting for me to turn... so I did. OB gave me a ticket for "failing to yield during left turn"= $85 bucks and 3 points.

Happy Ending:
A friend hooked me up with a traffic attorney, went to "trial" 2 weeks ago, and the charges were 100% dismissed: no points, costs or fine

I never didn't believe him but at least now, I understand his anger.

I'm not familiar with City Journal, but the article you are spotlighting is over two years old (Spring 2001). I wonder if more recent, more valid research has been done. Some interesting thoughts, but I'm not overly impressed. I find it interesting that the article says the there is "no credible evidence that racial profiling exists" but the movement to surpress it threatens law enforcement. How can surpressing something that doesn't exist threaten law enforcement? You can't have it both ways. Either it exists or it doesn't. It can't not exist but at the same time be a valuable tool.

The article in National Review says exactly what I expected it to say. No surprises here.

Unfortunately, this now makes sense to me. I am not a 20 something black guy. I am a 35 yr old white guy. I do not get singled out or "profiled" like a younger black man would. Obviously this board does not have the stereotypes that exist in society since everyone is just a font. Its just a sad fact that this type of behavior happens in our society.
I wish the world was more like this forum. And I am happy to say that 99% of the people outside of my race treat me with respect and dignity. As far as the oher 1% that don't, they are separtaed into two category's, the ones that affect my life and the ones that don't. The ones that don't affect my life are the people who may look at me funny if I go out with a white female who happens to be my coworker to lunch. The ones that do matter are the cops and people who have the power to make my life more difficult, like my managers or law makers, etc. Most of the cops I meet are good people, but there are still those out there that do harass people because of their race or car that they drive. My girlfriend lives in a part of town that is mostly hispanic, while I live in the mostly white part of town. When I go to pick her up, I always see the cops pulling some hispanic guy over for whatever reason. I'm sure that these guys aren't always 100% innocent, but it's funny to me that when I am on my side of town, all these guys driving crazy in their WRX's, Mustangs, and Comaro SS's are never being pulled over in the same consistency.

But I was really talking more about car profiling than racial profiling. I can really tell the difference in the past few years. I've had my civic for 9 years (since I was 17) and I am harassed much more now than I was when I was a teenager. And the car hasn't been modded since day one. To me, that is a problem.

I am aware of these statistics, and they are not suprising to me. Blacks do committ more than their share of crimes. But one must dig deeper and ask "why".

But enough about this topic. Lets get back to enjoying our cars. I'm about to go out and take a drive.

Talk to you guys later.

nastinupe1, don't get too upset about the black and white thingy, if you can't beat it, join it

Ur experience keeps reminding me of Men in Black II, the scene when the blow up dummy driver gets sucked back into the steering wheel.. " It came with a black dude but it kept being pulled over by the cops "
