The board design has been finished for a while now, just trying to get a board house that wants to play nicely. My previous place (for some unGodly reason
) refuses to accept Gerber files (they want AutoCAD DXF/DWG files, Postrscript EPS, even BMP!)....it's an industy standard, for Pete's sake! I've asked for a quote from a few new houses, I'll let you know what they come back with.
The moment I get some boards in stock I will have a completely assembled version put together within the day and installed by the next on my car. Pics will be taken and posted. Orders will begin once I am satisfied there will be no major issues (such as wires overheating, or the case getting too hot).
The board design is analog in nature, meaning you have three dials (actually, holes that you stick a provided screwdriver into) that determine the intensity of each color. Kind of a "set it and forget it" deal. I chose that because it was simple to design and would get something into the hands of my (eagerly awaiting) customers. However, there is a digital design in the works. Please note that all windscreen mods will sell with the analog module exclusively (since I have no specific date in mind to finish the digital module).
The digital module will be a simple plug-and-play piece that can easily be swapped out with the analog module, so for people wishing to upgrade in the future, the option is there. Cost for the digital module is still up in the air, but I guesstimate something in the range of half what the windscreen mod costs (could be less, could be more, don't know yet). With the extra cost comes extra functionality...I will not yet post what those extra goodies will be, only to say that some may want it and others may feel the analog box is enough.

Congrats MacGyver,
I was reading about the windscreen light thing, which looks awsome (BTW) and read about your Defense.
I got my Master's but had to finish early, so I took the "exam" and that was a pain. My thesis was never gonna get completed, so I just wanted to finish. Glad you got your thesis done with. Going for your PhD?
Congrats on your MS, and keep us posted about the windscreen lights, even though I like it the way it is and wouldn't mind setting mine up right now.

No PhD for this guy...more years I'm in school, more years I'm out of the workforce, have to pay for school, don't make any money while in school, and don't make much more money with PhD compared to MS, so there's not much point to it all for me.
Allright, I THINK I've found a new board house that will work. They're a bit more expensive, but I guess it's just another cost I'll have to eat. The files have been FTP'd, the credit card info has been faxed over, so unless there is an issue with the files (I'm hoping they'll tell me if there is instead of cutting boards worth crap) I'm expecting some pretty new toys a week from tomorrow.
The first batch will consist of 24 boards, but I'm only going to order enough components for 10 controllers (hey, if it turns out that they blow up or don't work for shit, I only want to be out a few hundred dollars).
As the orders come in, I will start work on the next project (something I think you guys are going to really enjoy getting a hold of
).

Correct...that is the windscreen board with three pots up top, connectors on either side and various resistors. I have not been able to determine why the transistors don't render.
You win bragging rights, how about that?
The new project will be significantly larger in size, but every bit as interesting a toy as this one. I envision a large overlap between people wanting the windscreen and the new toy, but not necessarily an exclusive group.

Still eagerly waiting for the day that you can start taking orders
