Poll: Multi-color windscreen lights with brake and reverse
Ben,
The cutoff line is for the safety of my sanity. IF the work is significantly more than I had planned for, then $150 for a lot of work is hardly worth it in the long run. So, I consider it a safety clause...I guarantee my original price of $150 for the first 47 people who expressed an interest. However, if the work is NOT much different than what I had anticipated, the $150 price tag will remain for everyone, including you. Don't fret yet...

Mac-
I'm #4 on the list, so I hope I can ask a couple of questions.
I read the post for info, but I'm not sure if I can somehow connect the switched wire to the interior dome light, instead of the brake light. I would like the windscreen to light up bright white when the door opens. I would like to have the adjustable intensity red light on (or off) with the parking lights on.
Also, I'm curious where the wire exits the base of the windscreen. It would be great if it exited underneath, next to the screw, so that the wire hole won't show when I'm using the lighted windscreen, or my camera mount.

God, No reason why I can't do the UV LEDs instead. No one really posted much interest in the idea so I haven't mentioned it lately. To tell you the truth I've been interested to see what it would look like with the S2000 logo painted in a dayglo color with the UV LEDs installed. If you're truly interested in this option let me know and I will order more UV LEDs to have on hand when it comes time to do yours...right now I think I only have 4 or 5. If things go smoothly I can take some pics with my old screen painted. Just be aware that you won't be able to mix the UV and colored LEDs, it's a one or the other deal. One of the pots will control the brightness level and the brake light function will be useless, but you'll still have the use of the soft top disable.
Pete, The circuit was never designed to do what you're asking, and there's no easy way to make it do your bidding. When the brake signal is energized, the red LED is turned on full brightness and the green and blue LEDs are turned off. That's the ONLY option you have when using the brake signal wire.
You won't be able to have both options at once. You could easily select white as your main color and hook the power supply up to the dome light (through either a relay setup or a small circuit modifry designed)...hit the dome light or open the door and the screen comes on with white light. But obviously this means the windscreen will only light up when you open the door or turn on the dome light. Or you could just choose a lower intensity red as your main color and connect it like normal.
I haven't decided the exact placement of the wire yet, but it's funny you should mention it because I was playing with it tonight while Merri was on the computer. Look at the windscreen from the rear of the car. I imagine the wire coming out the clamshell just to the right of the left hinge and into the base. Enough wire slack will be left so that when the screen is tilted back the slack in the cord will disappear (about a 1/2" loop, I would guess). With the windscreen in place any hole necessary for the wire into the secret compartment would be covered by the base...whether or not it will be covered by your camera mount is unknown.

ten/tidal, Install of the screen will be normal except for an extra hole under the base for the wire big enough to slip an RJ-11 phone connector through (about 3/8" square). The control box can be put anywhere, but I suggest in the secret compartment/ glove box, or inside the center console. Wiring is 4 wires...power, ground, brake, and e-brake...that's it.
Pete, You can change the color anytime you want by adjusting the red, green, and blue controls. You could easily add a switch on to the power wire to shut the entire system off, or one only on the brake wire if the cops are harassing you about having a 3rd brake light.

Mac, are you envisionion an accesory on or an on-with-lights operation? (I know I could wire it up anyway I wanted, just curious wha you were planning to put in the install instructions.)
Are all the wires to be tapped, in the back somwhere, or will I need to fish more wires through my car?
Ground == easy.
Accessory Power == Cig lighter? Should be pretty easy.
Brake Light == Gotta be back there somewhere.
Top control == I think you mentioned picking this up from the e-brake harness in the console.
Is this about right, or were you going to suggest pulling another power wire from under-dash?
