Proper S2000 break-in (according to owner's manual)
I am currently in the market for an '04 S2000 and have been doing a lot of research on these cars. After deciding that the S2000 is what I want "on paper", I went down to my local dealer and test drove one. It was just off the truck -- hadn't even been detailed yet.
Anyway, when I got in, the salesman said, "go ahead, rev it". So I jazzed it a little bit, just up to about 3K rpm. I said, "yep, sounds great". Then he insisted that I rev it higher, so I reluctantly revved it briefly to 4K. Then he insisted that I rev it up to redline. I said that I didn't think the engine should be revved to redline when the engine has virtually no miles on it. Furthermore, I did not think it was good for the engine to rev in neutral w/out any load. But he still was insistant that I did it. So I said, "fine, but I'm not buying this particular S2000". I reluctantly revved it up to about 7500rpm, and then proceeded to take the car for a test drive.
Every other car I have owned has specified a break-in procedure of some sort ('97 supra TT, '01 bmw 330ci, '03 M3). Are the S2000 engines seasoned from the factory, or was this salesman just off his rocker?

Whatever you do, make sure not to buy that one!
The manual states to wait 600 miles before you engage the V-tec.
What a moron!
When getting ready to buy yours make sure you arrive the day it gets there and see it being loaded off the truck that way you won't have any issues.
