Major interstates are cleared very quickly, you just end up in a ton of traffic due to people coming back in/supply trucks going in and out of that area. As long as the bridges in Louisiana are up you should be fine.

Problem is, if the car isnt what you expected and you decide not to buy, then you would need to buy a last-minute return ticket. $$$

You should still ask someone to check out the car ASAP. If they say it's good then hop on the plane. If they say it's a wreck it might save you to just eat the airplane ticket. It also gives you a negotiating card to play with the seller, knock some price off or you won't make the trip.

see the problem with love is that sometimes it is blind. so you get there, buy her, and then the trouble starts. a x-country trip is a tough way to settle into a LTR, like picking up a mail order bride. i would not feel completely at ease and trustworthy of buying privately in miami, there are rough neighborhoods. they love that car, mostly to steal the seats. so be careful, you leave it overnight at a trustworthy place, or a hotel parking lot, they take the seats. i say if the love's gonna happen take yer own plates and put em on. give yer agent the vin number and pay the sales tax in cali. you avoid any delay in getting your new plates. make sure the s-02's are firm, new looking, and front tires not unevenly worn. how discouraging to get to 80mph and suddenly it vibrates. be sure of the following: radio code, tire lock key, run it in a varied conditions, rev it over 6500 rpm to v-tech it to make sure it works. check that check engine light comes on when started, and goes off. it codes are cleared you have to trigger them to see if there's a problem. ap-1's have oil burning issues, take plenty of extra oil when doing change and check often. the higher you rev the more oil goes. there are plethora of possible pitfalls on your way to love, and it is tough to put your heart into a stranger's hands. are they really cheaper in fl than ca? fl= salt air, hot sun to fade paint and headlights....how serious are you if you get there and you battle with yourself? i bought mine used at 15,000mi, but from a very good friend, that's the only way i would buy a used s2000, especially an ap-1.
