Default Question about OEM and Aftermarket Windshield

Hi guys, my 06's windshield is getting lots of rock chips lately. So I am thinking about to replace a windshield for my 06.

However, I found that the OEM windshield has a slightly green-ish look. And I haven't see anything like this on other cars, which makes me think is the s2000's windshield thicker than most cars?

Am I going to get the same look if I go for aftermarket windshield? Is there any protector that I can put on it after windshield swap? like clear bra for windshield?

Anything would help!

Thanks

When you get the windshield company to do your swap make sure you ask for the green solar glass oem spec. Chances are that it won't be the same manufacturer as the factory glass but it will be similar and it will be green solar glass that way.

Make sure they use a new Honda molding, some companies will skip it or they will ask you for your opinion , it costs a bit more but it is much better quality than aftermarket moldings.

Stay with OEM if you can.I had my 03 replaced with non-OEM and the mirror clip didn't fit correctly.

If you go with non-oem,you may have to take the oem mirror clip off and put on the non-oem glass.I did.

If insurance will cover you (don't know if your state has zero glass deductible), I would 100% fight for OEM glass and molding. Find a small glass shop that cares about their customers and who will help you fight insurance for OEM glass. I replaced the windshield on my WRX using a small one-man shop here in Boston and he hopped on the conference call with insurance to insist on OEM glass. The fitment was perfect without any issues. Aftermarket glass may not yield the same results.

I've had problem with a replaced windshield in my old 2002Ti. Was done with generic windshield, by a guy that comes to your house. It leaked -> rusted out pillars & and perpetual dampness in the interior.

And don't know if it was the glass, molding, or installation... but, I went to OEM glass installed at dealer. At least I have warranty against problems for a year.

Most insurance companies have an "OEM or equivalent" clause in the contract, so it will be tough to get them to use OEM at twice the cost of aftermarket.

I've replaced with OEM and aftermarket glass, I didn't notice any difference except the logo. They're all made in China these days. Pilkington and PPG glass were what I used before, but the names change quickly in the windshield business. Inspect everything before they put it in (no distortion, mirror fits etc.).

And the last aftermarket molding I got was actually better than the OEM ones, which sometimes don't lay flat.

I had my windshield replaced in 2004 with one made by Pilkington. I have never had any issue with it. It appears to be as good as OEM.

Had non oem installed without problems. Put 30k on it before I sold it.

Leaking or rust is install error.

I had a guy from Safelite come out to repair some rock bullseyes on my S. USAA sent them out for no charge to me. During the repair, which went very well I might add-(be sure you don't attempt a repair or there is nothing they can do) the tech discussed windshield replacement in the event I was not satisfied. He described the process they follow and gave me some horror stories about competitors who are not as thorough in prep and execution. I did not get a windshield, do not know if they used OEM, but he gave a pretty story; I would be inclined to use them especially as USAA recommends them.
