It was bound to happen with so many people that have no clue how to properly drive a manual.

It would have to be engaged for you to rev up. you engage the clutch, hit the gas pedal to the right rpm and shift into the gear at the same time.

i have had my S for about 2 months now (tomorrow actually) and its my first manual car. i learned a bit on my brothers targa (yes, a great brother who wasnt worried about clutch wear in order for me to learn) and i got used to it. though id still get nervous, i got better when test driving a few S's. ive put on about 2500 miles, though mostly highway, so i havent gotten that much city driving practice. i have tried to rev match a little, but its still jerky, and though it takes you guys a split second without thinking about it, i have to think about it and its quite hard to learn. going from 6th to 5th is quite easy as i believe the ratios are "close"... but i had two questions.
1. if i am in 6th, or 5th, and i need to brake, i will brake and put the car in neutral.. i know its best to keep it in gear while braking... but i like to put it in 3rd when needing to accelerate (mainly because i feel like the revs run with the mileage in 10's) ex: 3 rpm ~ 30 mph, 5 rpm ~ 50 mph. is it wrong to go wrong 6th or 3rd (but in neutral for a while, so its not a straight jump into gear)?
2. i drive in dress shoes, but i wanted to get a more appropriate shoe for heel toe, so i ordered me some puma repli cat's. can someone please post a video (i know there are tons) or recommend a place, or a how to on the best way to heel toe? i feel like i can rev match by blipping without braking (when i need more power to accelerate) but heel toe is where i screw up.. thanks!

This is what I do and I'm not saying its the 'correct' way.

If I'm in 4th at 40 mph and can take the turn at 10-15 mph, I'll...
1) clutch out
2) brake
3) make the turn
4) while im making the turn I...
5) clutch in
6) rev match (b/c at this point my revs are at idle)
7) clutch out and go

And I know good practice is to downshift all the way to the turn, so your car is always in gear just in case, but I'm lazy like that

Dude. You don't need special shoes unless you plan to go racing. My dress shoes work great.

Work on your rev-matching; don't worry about heel-toe until you get that down pat. Then work on your heel-toe.

If skipping gears just go through the gears with the clutch pushed in and then release at desired gear. Best way to do it if skipping gears on a down shift.
