Default Question for MY06 owners.

I have a question for MY06 owners.

What does your brand new MY06 manual state about engine oil?
What viscosity to use?
What (API) quality?

I would really like to know.

It says 10W30 or 0W40(for cold climates only).

An oil with a viscosity of 10/30 is preferred for optimum fuel economy and year round protection in your vehicle. You may use 5/40 oil if the temp in your area goes below 0 degrees. Verbatum.

Any motor oil disdlaying the API seal.

Thanks for the reply's
Is there no specific minimum API spec listed (anymore, because it is in my MY00 manual)?

This is also a bump

Doesn't it just say it on the Oil Cap what grade to use? Water + a little bit of dirty never hurts either :-x

Out of curiosity- why do you care? You don't have an 06 so why would you want to know?

Its not a secret is it?

Anyway...
I would like to know if Honda took the developments in engine oil in account when writing the MY06 manual.
In my honest opinion a (dino) 10W-30 is... not a "2006 kinda oil".
I was surpriced to see that you mentioned a 0W-40 as the "cold climate" option.
0W-40 is most certainly a synthetic oil and IMO a high range one.
5W-40 is more "common".

Trying to get some insight in Honda's oil-mind.

As someone else pointed out it is 5W-40(I still have 0W-40 on my mind from the Boxster I just turned in.) The API designation in the manual simply states to use API "for gasoline engines" no other specification. The other thing I noticed is the manual says synthetic oils are fine and does not give a mileage recommendation to start either. I will wait until at least 5K to start it in mine.
