i disagree... again...
i owned my s2k for 2 years of college... and i think its actually easier to pay it off now then it would be once i graduated...
not having to pay rent yet or having any other expensive bills such as health insurance makes it pretty easy to pay off unless you buy a brand new one...
i got mine for 20k...
if your living at home like you said and plan on it for a few years you should be fine with a used s2k... maybe $ 18-25k put down like 3-6k and you should be in the high 300s maybe...

I will never understand people who hate like this. If you were a teenager with parents willing to buy you a car would you say no!!??? Of course not, so stop hating on the kid becuase he has nice parents. Sheesh.

Well lets see. I'm now 20. I'm a full-time student. I have been working since i was 14. Summer I work 50 hours a week. I've been a legal assistant at a law firm for 3 years now. I saved up enough to buy a year old Nissan Spec V 3 years ago. I sold that and used some money i've saved, put that down on the s2k. Mom paid the rest. And I still have plentyyy of money in the bank.

Does that make me spoiled? maybe. Do I work hard to have nice things and not be in debt like a million other people? yes.

I take it since you're 19, you are probably a first-time buyer for a car. But correct me if I'm wrong. My local credit union would only give me a loan up to $13000 for being a first-time buyer, though I'm not sure how your situation is. I'm also 19, turning 20 in 5 months.

In response to your questions:
1 - After taxes I make around $1200-$1300/month depending on overtime.
2 - I bought my '02 for $21500 from a private owner. Paid him $1500 cash and had the remaining $20000 financed. My monthly is $358 for 72 months.
3 - Insurance is $137 (They put my dad as the primary driver, otherwise it would've been $400)

All expenses to the car are paid by me.

A couple points.

1. You'll pay roughly $20 per thousand financed at a "normal" interest rate.

2. Insurance (if your own policy) can run about $2 thousand per year.

3. Get a used S2K. Let someone else take the depreciation, preferably a leased car turned in.

4. If you don't mod the car, your expences aren't really that bad. The difficult thing here is NOT modifying. You'll see sooooo many nice cars on this site that your head can easily get filled with ideas - ideas that cost $$. Our mods are not cheap!

5. So get one, lay low as far as other expences go and don't hotdog it around the corners and curb it after a month.

Enjoy and buy a membership.

p.s. How are you registered with a MY00/Silverstone? That used to require a vin in order to register owner status. Hmmmm.

I think it's funny that a 22 year old making $10k a month drives an 01 S2000? :LMAO: Especially someone that works in the auto loan business. I'd surely have a Z06 + caliber car if I was in that situation. Not to mention months of Racing/driving school sessions booked.

3. Insurance is 63 a month (I have no idea why its so cheap but I'm not complaining!)
That insurance is inanely cheap. Are you under your parents plan or something to that effect?

If you think you don't have enough money to pay for the S2K, TRUST ME...don't get the FD!

before i chime in, im gunna have to say im spoiled...but tryin to get out of it..slowly.
i have a job, decent paying, so ive been paying for all the mods since i started driving.

at 17, my parents bought me a 04 TL, which was automatic, they put 10k down and was still paying 560 a month, im not even gunna go into insureance cause it was out the ass. i wasnt allowed to get manual at that point because my dad didnt want me to get one. i dropped about 5-6k on mods on the car, nothing major, just here and there.

when i was 18, i convinced my parents to let me get a manual car and have me pay for it. it took a couple of months, but i found me a 96 civic hatch 5spd for 1800, had rear quarter panel damage. so i bought it, fixed it up and painted it. now its a sohc turbo hatch all paid for by me.

then i realized that the TL just wasnt for me. and the fact that my parents were paying out the ass for it was stupid, because i drive the civic WAY more than i drive the TL.

so i convinced my dad to sell the TL and let me get myself into an s2k. took over a year to convince him but he finally gave in.(he didnt want me to get into a sports car)

so we sold the TL, used the money left from the car and put a down payment of 10k down and i personally financed 14k. its about 250 a month give or take.

i went from paying for nothing to having at least some responsibility. i was just sick of seeing my parents paying 560 a month for a car i never drive.

insurance they still pay, but hopefully i can take the payments up from them because both cars are mine and they dont even drive it.
i hate the fact that ppl say shit like"that kid is ****in spoiled behind my back".

btw im 19 now.
