Yeah I was about to say, if I was making anything close to $10k a month, I would at least have an NSX!

if you make $10k per month, your take home pay after tax is not as much as you think, especially if you are single.

Let's just say if I had to pay what you just listed, I would NOT own an s2000!
At $700+ a month I can own a 997 turbo man....jeez. And your insurance is another $600 per month? wow ouch
I'm sure me being a bit older than most of you at 30 helps but if you ever look at what you are paying in finance charges each month and what goes to principal it is pretty bad, don't matter what your rate is.
I learned the hard way since my early 20's I just bought an Eclipse and even that was expensive with the mods.
Well I guess some of you really want the s2000 really bad.

I make 2200 a month
I put 1000 down and my payment is 462 a month
I am 22 years old and my insurance is 130/month full coverage.
May I say I never thought owning an s2000 would be possible at my age, if you go new your gonna be screwed. However I bought an 01 and couldnt be happier.
As far as maintence goes find a good reliable tuner in your area, the dealership will screw you so if you can avoid there do it
I HTH, if you want it bad enough you can make it work

haven't bothered to read the entire post...but I did read more of the first two pages. First off...I will say that yes, this car requires quite a bit of pampering. Fluid changes need to be regular...and of course the money spent on cleaning to keep her looking pretty. Then yes, tires are a big and frequent expense, and other little things.
Anyway, I wont say to not get the car. If you think you can afford it, go for it. I bought my 00' AP1 not long after I turned 18. Birthday in January and bought the S in the beginning of June. I got a loan from a credit union under my name but need my mom to co-sign. I borrowed 9.5k for 60months locked in at a 4.25% rate. Paid something like 21.5 for the car...so yes a rather large down payment
I pay $176 a month in car payment
was paying $270 a month in insurance but that just came down to $200 a month
When I bought the car I was making 1k+ a month...now that I'm in college I'm lucky to make $500 in a month. But my only expense is the car. I'm lucky enough that my parents pay for my rent and food and clothing, etc...but the car is my responsibilty. Also, I'm now 20 years old...finishing up my bachelors in 3 years (one more year to go)...and part of the reason I get all my funding is because I've maintained a 4.0GPA my entire time in college thus far. Basically, I'm not slacking off.
If you get the car, have fun...but be careful...it can bite you in the ass. Get some track time and learn the car. Respect it and it will respect you...and at our age, it is a great car to have.

I am 18, I make around $2500/month after taxes, my payment is $480/month and my insurance is $470/month. Soon, the S will be insured as a recreational vehicle and the insurance will go way down. I pay for everything myself, the car is in my name only.
I'm 19 and my parents would pay for my car. My first car was a RSX type S and my Dad hated it and wanted me to get a "real" car. So he got me a E36 M3. what 17yr old (at the time) would say no to that? I got rid of the M3 this year to get an S2000.
But the S2000's monthly was pretty high and I felt bad for my parents, because here I am living with them for free, free school and they're paying for my car TOO, LOL how sad
. Even though they didn't mind paying for it they could use that extra money on more important things. And it would be too much for me if I took over those payments by myself. So two months ago I sold my S2000 and just picked up a beater.
Now I'm saving up for a down payment to get another S2000, this time pay it all off myself. My plan is to put enough down to finance about ~$10k-12k and have monthly payments no more than $250 and pay it off as soon as i can. no mods for a while.
I assume your in college. And people are right when they tell you it's not reasonable, your not readyblah blah blah etc... but like someone said earlier it comes down to, "How bad do you want it?" because if you don't monthly payments can really suck. If you really love this car,you can make it work. Just pay off your cc debts first, and save a little to put down if you're worried about the monthly. Buy in off season (ie: fall, winter) because you can get really good deals around that time for a 'vert. Oh and don't get too mod crazy lol.
goodluck
