I think what made this year so bad was that the weather has been relentless. .... I guess I can sum it up this way...I want weather to happen AROUND me, not AT me.
We got so much rain last night into this morning that when I went outside this morning this guy was waiting for me on the driveway.
We have woods in our backyard and about 300 feet into the woods are wetlands. I suppose this fellow got a little confused and wandered all the way up. Anyway E.W.A. put him back onto the grass pointed in the direction of the wetlands.
Because everything was so wet we decided to take Adam to the Liberty Science Center in Jersey City. It is a science museum with lots of interesting exhibits. It just so happens that they currently have "Sue". Sue is the Tyranosaurus Rex that was recently found in South Dakota. It is the largest, most complete T-rex fossil ever found. You may remember that the Feld Museum in Chicage bought the fossil for $8 million from the farmer whose land it was found on (after a long legal case concerning the ownership). We had to see this.
I know some people that look like that!
Anyway we spent the afternoon in the museum, saw an Imax movie and went to Chinatown (NYC) for dinner. We used to live in NYC and one of our favorite restaurants is in Chinatown.
For a rainy Saturday afternoon, Adam, E.W.A. and I had a pretty nice time. I hope its dry tomorrow so we can use the S.
9:20PM Saturday, 8/2/03... 78*F, with thunderstorms.
We got home yesterday morning, and had to take the car in for more repairs (Hilly's car, not the S2000). Had an absolutely wonderful time, among other things saw Badlands National Park, Mt. Rushmore, Yellowstone, Glacier NP (we were there for the initial evacuation of the west side) and came home via North Dakota, Minnesota and Wisconsin.
Unfortunately we broke down twice on the road, nothing immobilizing (the transmission went into 2nd gear limp mode, fixed by replacing the transmission controller in Sioux Falls, SD but it failed again while in Yellowstone so methinks the dealer there didn't replace the right controller) but it made for some interesting driving.
We saw some of the most awe-inspiring gorgeously beautiful scenery I've ever seen. Took lots of photos which we are busy sorting through, hopefully I can post some here in a few days or so. Had wonderful, if hot, weather, with only two days of rain that didn't bother us in the least.
Got lucky yesterday, came home mid-day with the S after dropping off Hilly's Eagle Vision at the dealer and about 1/2 hour after putting the S in the garage the skies opened up with a severe thunderstorm. We had golfball sized hail for about 15 minutes, the ground was covered with it and a LOT of tree leaves littered the ground. No damage here but my in-laws cars had a lot of dents.
This is the first time I've had a chance to get online in three weeks...
Thanks for the welcome back Rob, we did have a wonderful time. We had her mother with us, and each day was a real hoot, we laughed and laughed and LAUGHED!!! If I had it to do over the only thing I'd have changed was the car trouble, but even that gave us funny things to remember.
Today was wonderful, sunny and 80-ish. Hilly and I drove topless to the dealer to pick up my plates, about an hours drive or so, and took a long way home through the farmland west of us. 'Twas a wunnerful drive in gorgeous weather.
T-storms have passed on tonight, tomorrow supposed to be scattered storms and mid-80s. I'm hoping to get the S washed tomorrow morning; I do need to get some Zaino on order...
Been catching up on the thread, I see that the toasters are still AWOL/MIA. Drat it, and here I sit with a stack of english muffins all ready to become warm and crumbly and get slathered with butter and jam. 4, you coulda brought mine with ya to the Windy City and left it on my doorstep.
Rob et al, it doesn't look good for Hilly and me to be coming to Fall Colors this year. It's either that or winter tires/wheels for the S and seeing as the S is my year round daily driver, the rolling underpinnings are what's going to get done this year.
Where is 29 Palms, California? They were just on the Weather Channel with flooding. Unless this is another one of their hoax's just like their forecasts.
More inland, around Palm Springs - it's about a 2 1/2 hour drive from where I live.
And the weather guy probably felt bad for the crummy weather you've been having and probably lied about the gorgeous weather out here!
