Default rear window finally cracked

so I walked out to my car this morning to go to work. my car is parked outside in a parking lot. as I throw stuff into the trunk I noticed a huge crack in my plastic rear window. it goes from the top right corner all the way down to mid bottom.

on top of this I have two extremely large tears on the side that I fixed the ghetto way. applied super glue to gorilla tape and threw them on the tears to prevent rain from getting into the car.

so now I have duct tape on the sides of the top. the weatherstripping is leaking. and my rear window is cracked. Honda quoted 1300 for the top without installation. I found a couple cheap robbin soft tops on ebay. but I would not know how to install it. nor be able to pay someone to install it for me.

I am in the middle of buying a house so all my money has to be put into the house. so I think my only option right now is to trade the S in for another car. which is going to be really hard for me. overall the car is in great condition. kept up maintenance. touch up paint etc.

how did all of you deal with your top problems? went to dealership? or fixed it yourself?

There are some DIY on how to install the soft top. It takes a lot of time.
If you're in upstate NY, there's a group looking to do a group soft top install with lazy_s2k who normally installs tops in NC.

If you're on Long Island, Billman250 install soft tops.

I'm pretty sure when he says overall the car is in great condition, he probably means everything else besides the top lol.

I replaced my top a few months ago for the same reason. I got a Robbins top for about $600 and did the work myself (took 10-11 hours). I'd say try to replace it yourself, it's not really hard just very time consuming. Also do the conversion to the glass window if you replace it. I did and I couldn't be happier with how much better it looks.

You're going to lose more money during trade-in on the reduced value of the car due to the condition of the top than it would cost to buy a new top and have it professionally installed.

So really your choices are:

1. Replace the top and continue to enjoy the car
2. Replace the top and trade it in if you no longer want the car

If you trade it with the top in its current shape I guarantee you will not like what anyone offers you. Thousands less, easily.

Edit: I see you decided to get another top, so yeah--good choice.

Yeah. I love the car way too much to get rid of it. Replacing the top by myself is going to be difficult since i have never done anything similar before. But until the top gets here i will be reading plenty of DIY's
