Removing plastic cover under top...bad for aerodynamics?
I was thinking of removing that plastic cover that you see when the top is up (behind your seats). This allows you to see the spare and stuff but I don't care since my car is top down 99% of the time. I want to remove it because #1 i'll save 1 lb, which will make me faster #2 i think it's rattling from my sub.
My question is, with the top up and windows down (like at a time trial event), will I be noticably slower?? With the top up it is faster than top down, but does this panel hurt (or help) aerodynamics noticably (since it will let alot of air into the trunk)??
I had this panel out for a while during/after my rollbar install. I highly doubt there's any performance difference (except for that weight! ), but be warned: if you have a plastic rear window, it will tend to press down on the wire connector going to the fuel tank. If left that way for long, this will cause a noticeable dimple in the plastic.
Ahh, here's a picture:
The thing I'm talking about is the black rubber connector/mount all the way to the left of the photo (partially out of shot), with the yellow wires coming out. The top was partially up in this shot, so you can see how when it's folded down all the way the plastic will press against that connector.
