Default Removing the top frame to replace the top?

I'm looking at doing a top replacement again and I'm not looking forward to it. Seems like I saw a post that said it's easier to replace the top by removing the frame then putting the top to the frame. Is this the case? Anyone have a link to that thread or have a PDF on how to do this?

You might have misread the posts.

I believe it's easier to replace a top by replacing it with another one that already comes with a frame (most likely a used one).

It's not easier to replace a top by installing it on a removed frame; you're just looking at more work for the same results.

I just redid a top last weekend and we left the frame in place per the instructions. If you are going to do it make sure you read the instructions first, check to see you have the straps and rivets necessary before hand. And remember new tops have new material and it needs to be stretched out. You make have to really pull down hard for the last couple of inches the first few times you put it back up. If you are buying a used top its not going to have that issue.
