Resetting the ECU
I thought that at this point, ECU's where basically constantly resetting themselves and adjusting to new variables (air temp, fuel octane...).
If this is the case what is the point of resetting your ECU after an install anymore? Wouldn't the ECU automatically take the changes in airflow into account?

I didn't know people where resetting their ECU's.... that's news to me.
You should only reset it when there are complications to the install like a CEL due to O2 sensors or secondary air injection systems...
The only reason I EVER reset my ECU is to clear a CEL after fixing the problem.

its also refered to as the OBDII work around. Pulling the clock radio fuse for a few minutes. I know in my car it does make a difference. After i reset the car seems to idle much smoother and quieter and pull much harder in vtec.
I also read on po.com (a few years back) that on the dyno it did show a few hp's after reset on a car that wasnt reset in a while.
dont quote me, but this is what i recall.
heres a link about it...

Ive had my s for nearly a month now and was completely stock when I bought it. A few days ago I added a new HKS full twin exhaust and an AEM V2 cold air intake kit (awesome by the way). After both were fit the first drive was a bit ropey, (loud but power loss). I then reset the ecu. Restarted the car let it warm up for 5 mins then gave it a good run, pretty much to the limiter on almost every gear for bout 10mins. Now it runs very smooth and you can tell the car has benefited from the reset. I would strongly suggest doing this after install large mods (induction, exhaust etc

I noticed exactly the same thing but I never rev all the way the rpms as you describe. Besides its hard to go to the limiter on 6th gear on the streets.
Anyone can clarify that this is the way the ECU should learn the new data?
