Default Resetting ECU - Problems

Well at first I tried pulling the "backup" fuse to no avail then left the negative off the battery over night and heres where im suprised.

Reason im resetting the ECU is to get rid of check engine light. Basically around 78000 miles the check engine would flash on startup and then turn off. From reading here thats to indicate a required service interval. So finally around 80k it stays on indicating service time.

Well its on the list to do but money is money and I was trying to clear it off so if anything did happen I would notice from a actual check engine light.

Anyways so this morning I rehook up the batter and before I even turn on the car check engine light is on, just had the key in the start position. Turn it on it goes through its "fuel trim" so I know I reset the ecu.

So do not know what to do at this point.

You are confusing the Check Engine Light with the Maintanance Required Light.

You don't reset the ECU for the Maintanance Required Light reset.

To reset the MAINTENANCE REQUIRED light (As indicated by the light that says, "MAINT REQU'D"):
- Have key inserted in ignition but in the OFF or LOCKED position.
- Push and hold the trip reset button on the right bottom corner of your gauge clutster.
- Turn key to full ON position and continue holding the button till the light goes off.
