The only people that claim the AP1 is better are the people that own AP1s. For what you want to do, I think you're better off getting more aggresive gears, and maybe just putting a supercharger on the engine. SC or turbo are really the two best ways to get more power from anS2000 engine.

Oh boy..caaaareful

I'm not sure why so many folks are anti FI. For what you want I would be much more inclined to pick up an AP1 for the cost-savings and go with appropriate gearing and a supercharger to get some more linear power for tracking. Not saying you can't track a turbo, but with the twitchy nature of the car and lack of traction control on AP1 (unless you add it) it might be a little more predictable and controllable. Easier installation and potentially tuning is also a nice benefit. If there's money left over when budgeting, I might even go for an AP2 tranny.

Guess I don't understand the desire to stay N/A and spend money hand-over-fist to squeek out minimal amounts of power.

Turbocharging is you best bet to getting the most bang for the buck. If you can afford it, AP2 and turbo. I say AP2 because it IS a more refined vehicle and has much more predictable handling which = a more manageable track car; if your intentions are to race at a road course, or solo it up.
