The least expensive version in the 2600-2700 series is way more than adequate.

Do a search or look on the Garmin web site. Prices vary, but steeps discounts are rare.

Great design idea!!! My only concern with this install would be the fact that from a thieves perspective, it would be extremely easy to slit the soft top with a pocket knife and tear that GPS out in a matter of seconds!

Any thoughts to providing some sort of cover to conceal the unit when parked? I don't think it would be that hard to design?

Thoughts?

Rick, I'm seriously interested in this also.

I'm planning on getting a Garmin 2610 after the first of the year, and I also want to get a V1. One feature I'd like to see for both mounts is the ability to easily remove the unit so it can be used on another car, in this case our '04 Accord sedan. I don't need to have the visors in the car as they never get used. If they need to get pitched to make room for the mount, no problemo.

Will this interfere with a pillar pod gauge setup? I'm going to do oil and water temp, along with a shift light, and I'd like it all to integrate nicely if possible. I also have a Honda hard top; I assume there should be no problem with fitment, right?

Thanks!!!

Why not mod the a-pillar so that instead of gauges there's a GPS there? Keep it low - near the dash - say right above the vent and radio controls. The small size of the Garmin unit the other poster put in the cupholder seems well-suited for the task.
