[QUOTE=Rick Hesel,Nov 8 2005, 02:38 PM] I saw this post -- it's an ingenious solution, but I think not a good location.

Why not mod the a-pillar so that instead of gauges there's a GPS there? Keep it low - near the dash - say right above the vent and radio controls. The small size of the Garmin unit the other poster put in the cupholder seems well-suited for the task.
The size and shape of the Garmin units do not lend themselsves well to that location. We sought a aircraft cockpit-like solution, overhead controls.

i actually do use my visor so would prefer to leave the roof rail alone (unless the proposed roof rail mount doesn't interfere with the use of the visor). still, a very cool idea Rick and i'd probably get one

Rick,
Good work as usual. I'd suggest some other 'better' way to design it, but since you've already finished your design...and already selected between the available options constrained by both the S2K and your own decisions, I'll merely say:

I'll likely buy one when ready. (This is what you actually asked for us to tell you in our replies, right? :-)

I noticed that you have your V1 mounted on the other side. Does this thing go all
the way across or is it 2 different pieces, or are you just going to have the 1 piece
over the drivers side. I have my V1 mounted on my visor so this would be a problem for me. Im interested none the less

Very observant. If all goes well, we'll have an option for a V1 mount.

As with all things in a car with almost no extra space, everything is a compromise. It's one piece, and the new design will be a bit more fluid with less abrupt changes in shape.

But there's no way to retain visors. I've had no visors for four years now and don't miss 'em a bit.

The visors are so damn low they are useless for me. If I drop them I cannot see anything in front of me but the first two feet of the hood.
