I love your design - very ingenious and relatively cheap way of integrating aftermarket nav! However, it seems that many of the larger nav manufacturers have begun to favor a no button/squarish design (ie. Garmin C330 and TomTom Go 700). With this in mind, I think you should consider designing a similar setup for owners of the aforementioned nav units. Many people are beginning to purchase this style of nav and I think they would be interested in this type of solution. I for one own a TomTom Go 700 and would definitely purchase this type of mounting system if it fit my nav. If any of you fellow Garmin C330 and TomTom Go owners feel the same way, speak up - I think this would be the PERFECT solution for mounting our navigation!
Possibly a bad idea, but it's easy to get a cable there. Here's a quick & dirty pic of what I had in mind (the angle it is facing is off a bit):
All well and good, but that screen is about a third of the size of the Garmin screen. Just triple the size and imagine how far it would be sticking out.
The wiring is actually the easy part. The pillar piece snaps out and there's enough room for lots of cabling under there.
First of all, make ones for the V1 and the 8500 X50. THose are like 95% of radars on this board. Also, you would increase sales if you made a mount like the garmin, except ONLY for a screen (like the alpine 5 inch screens, or whatever) Basically, just a square hole.

Very observant. If all goes well, we'll have an option for a V1 mount.
As with all things in a car with almost no extra space, everything is a compromise. It's one piece, and the new design will be a bit more fluid with less abrupt changes in shape.
But there's no way to retain visors. I've had no visors for four years now and don't miss 'em a bit.
The only time I've used the visor to block the sun, it also blocked my view of the road.
After reading this thread several times, I think you are on to a great design concept. My ML430 had a nav screen in the middle of the dash at about 4 o'clock. It was possible to glance at it and get some idea where you might be on the screen, but anything more detailed was hard to come by without some risk of not seeing conditions that might change in front of you. The "heads up" approach works well with the S2 given the relative low position of the windshield trim piece.
This is a mod that I would go for, particularly if it had the option to mount a V1 on the other side.
