S2000 criticism
I had to post this 'cause the posts about M3's, S4's, etc. taking S2000's gets old after a while. The S2000 is Honda's initial stab at a performance-level vehicle at an affordable price. I can only imagine the level of performance is the engineers at Honda wanted to put anoth 12-15K into the vehicle - i.e. S2000 Type-R.
An individual I know that is very knowledgable, as well as informed, about Honda and the S2000 told me that initially, the car was being tested with approximately 290 horsepower with an improvement in the torque curve, but decided that such horsepower/weight, torque would not be recommended within the American market.
Compare what should be compared and there is NO competition - S2000's with BMW's 3-series(not M3's) with BWM Z3's (2.8's even) with Porsche Boxster (normal aspiration) and there is no comparison even when value is not included. Move up to Boxster S's and M-Roadster and the S2000 still holds it's own.
Even with the tail 'kicking out', I have never had a car that can recover as easily with minimal reaction.
And, even though the individual probably was not an experienced
BMW driver - I took care of an M3 last week withsome serious high-rev's, but lil' problem otherwise.
And, also - the brokers and accountants with their Boxster (S or no S) seem to always signal and move left outta' my way when the ole' Honda insignia appears in the rear-view mirror.

I should probably not respond to this post as it really seems to have no real purpose but what the hell ....
Coulda woulda shoulda -- but didn't. Honda created a fun little 2 seat convertible. It is not however without faults. Playing the coulda game holds true for any car.
I guess when you speak of beating M3's you mean the old ones.

It's just a bunch of egos trying to justify spending more than they could afford on cars with more capability than they know how to use. Let it go -- you'll be happier for it.
Anyway, you wouldn't like it if everyone thought the S2K was by far the hottest thing on wheels. Because then everybody would buy one, and you'd see S2Ks all over the place, and Honda would add automatic transmission and wire wheel options, and pretty soon you'd start seeing hardtops with vinyl covering and portholes... You get the idea. Most people don't understand the car, and it's better that way. Every time somebody says they prefer the <insert name of favorite posermobile here> to the S2K I think, "Good, go for it."

Well, it could be the ol' Honda insignias OR it could be your HID's
bouncing in their rear-view mirrors!
It's a compliment! My 99 civic barely depreciated and with trade the s2k was had for 26k.
(paid 8 on the si note incl. interest and got 6+ back-downpayment was a 90 civic lx)
Soooo...everytime I see one of these posts, I laugh. Comparing my "somewhat" economy honda to M's etc.???
I love it.
