S2000 (final) audio solution revealed! (pics)
Thanks Z06, positive negative ANY criticism always helps!:-)
Originally I had certain worries about the reactions of this (well mannered) forum and the truth was (is) I wanted to sink the speakers into dash. Then I realized the task would not be as easy as I though mainly due to absence custom grills and mounting - in no way I can do it or know anybody who would do it for me. All that said - there IS a room to sink them (pipes restructuring needed on driver's side) but I would not be able to make it nice.
On a sound quality note - not that I would be audiophil, I just like clean sound which is not loud. In fact I hate noise. I tried to put excelons speakers instead of stock and it just did not do it, even though 6.5 sound wayyyy better and rich then 4".
So I traded a little (look for sound) and by coincidence I think this is what the factory stereo should be for the roadster sound quality and space requirement wise.
In theory it had to be good (mids at ear level not blocked by anything, firm bass from subs, rich sound when top down and there is no reflection) and I can only say I am happy this time I was right:-)
All that said - I think it can't get any better then this soundwise. Let's give some business to valued S2k suppliers like Lucid, Ricks etc. and let them make in-dash grills (perhaps fiber glass borders?) which would cover sank-in 4" speakers. How about that?

Someone's going to get hurt with that speaker grill. An airbag goes off with an explosive...it's not like popping the top on a beer bottle but rather a violent explosion that's required to deploy the bag before your head hits the dashboard. This is no joke.
Good luck with your project but I hope no one follows your lead.
