Depends on your area and what year you're looking for. I was looking for an AP2 in Los Angeles and it was impossible to find anything sub-15k that wasn't on its 5th owner or had a sketchy carfax. Got fed up with all the sketchy dealerships and just paying $19k for a single owner clean MY04.
I did the same thing. Got a one owner 06 for 19, 000 cash.... 27000 miles all oem. Seen a hand full with wavy rear quarter panels from bad poke and pull crap.

Pretty similar to mine. Mine had 2 prior owners but the second owner drove it all of 2k miles in the year he had it. A few swirls and minor scratches but nothing terrible. $19,500.

Saw only 3 AP2s in MA recently. I was lucky that I found my car in MA for amazing price and in amazing condition only 40 minutes away from home. I hate shopping for months. Every once in a while I search for Cayman S, I suppose if right one comes along I will just buy it, if not then I am cool with what I have

honestly buy a cheap one and fix it up. mint ones are so expensive.. . i would rather buy a cheap kindly molested one and fix it up. saves some money and gives you pride in your own car.

I bought mine from a dealer for 24k GPW red/black interior. Unmolested. You get what you pay for.

Correct. Relentless searching and patience will find you the right car.

Agreed with NYGPW08... you gotta pay to play, as the saying goes. If you want a nicer one that's well maintained, you'll have to shell out the cash for it. The reason the more affordable ones are not as well maintained is for that very reason... it's AFFORDABLE. You've got to buy one that's still out of the reach of kids who want to make them "hellaflush" or ruin them with ridiculous mods if you want a good one.

It's a used car. You're going to have some sort of damage and fixing it up will out weigh the cost of finding a mint s2000 although they are some out there. You're buying at lest a second hand s2000 and through its ventures it gets abused and bumped here and there. If your buying a used car why expect a brand new condition car for a bargain?

Clean costs more and if it's comes from a dealer you don't know if it just looks clean. Private owner cars are easier to determine how it was treated.
