S2000 losing its soul

I thought that Honda had said there would be in increase in torque but not in power ??
I could be wrong though ... I usually am
You've gotta be kidding. With SMT/SMG the S2000 would 0wn. As long as they put it in the steering column and not in the stupid center console (what's the point of doing that BTW?) that's a great way to move the S2000 upmarket. Sales of the NSX are sucking ass so they need to do something quick. It doesn't make sense to have the S2000 a few thousand more than the RSX and 40 grand less than the N$X. They need something in between, where the M3, C5, and the Boxster are making huge sales.
As for the 9k redline, who cares? It's a marketing gimmick anyway. So what if your engine revs higher than the others. It just makes it louder - there's no real point besides bragging rights that don't mean anything. The S2000 will still be fast and light, I don't think Honda is staffed by idiots.

First, the highest revving car isn't necessarily the fastest. F1 engines rev high because almost every parameter of engine design is dictated by a strict formula. Second, there are street bikes that rev to 12k rpm or more. Third, if a 2.2 L engine can make 250 bhp at say, 7500 rpm instead of 8500 for a 2.0 L, without adding a lot of weight, why would anyone prefer the F20C?
I like the high rpms, sure, but I really can't see what it offers aside from noise and just the coolness of high revs. Seriously, what is the benefit? Is a lot of noise (granted, an exquisite noise) the SOUL of the S2000? Like the titanium connecting rods on the NSX, cool tech but does it really matter that much?

I would hate to see a honda version of SMG. They've been pretty good at keeping their sporty versions in only manual transmissions (SI, GSR, Type-R, S2000, NSX (I think)...and so on).
They like to keep out the posers who want a sporty car but are too lazy to shift for themselves. I like that.
