I think we have a case of the candle being burned on both ends of the stick.

The S has dropped in resale value to the point where you can buy it on the cheap with a side of rice.

This is coupled with losses of institutional folks from this site like XViper.

The sweat hogs are moving in and the AP students are moving out.

You don't need to do the math to see it.

I have only seen two "ricers" ever in the s2k.
In order to really chart the ricer ratio trends, we need to agree on a common nomenclature, classification system and taxonomy.

For example, I found this definition of Ricer on a dictionary site:

====
Ricer: (from the Latin word Ricarius meaning to suck at everything you attempt)

A person who makes unnecessary modifications to their most often import car (hence the term "rice") to make it (mostly make it look) faster. The most common modifications are (but not limited to):

- Huge exhaust that serves no purpose but to make the car louder
- Large spoiler on the back that looks like something Boeing made for the 747
- Lots of after-market company stickers they don't have parts from, but must be cool
- Expensive rims that usually cost more than the car itself
- Body kit to make the car appear lower, usually accented with chicken wire
- Clear tail lights and corner signals
- A "performance intake"- a tube that feeds cold air to their engine usually located in areas of excessive heat (behind or on top of the engine)

The "ricer" attempts to make their car "performance" by adding the modifications listed above.
====

If there can be agreement on this definition, then I would submit that the rice ratio is quite higher that originally suspected.

Note that the definition does not attempt to judge the merits (good or bad) of being a ricer, rather it is just a classification system to aid in data collection and analysis.

[QUOTE=RED MX5,Jan 11 2008, 07:39 PM] Way too many of the posts in this thread could be placed in your thread which discussed snobs;
As examples of why snobs suck so much.

Some of the snobs here make me be ashamed to be associated with the car or these forums.

I'm glad to see the price of the car coming down, because apparently that's going to drive away most of the arrogant pricks.

Good point.

I guess I respect Captain Spaulding for who he is, and therefore tend to overlook his driving credo.

That is a great point!

This is a Honda! Get over yourself.
Maybe I was a little harsh, but . This kind of thinking puts me off when it comes from Porsche owners, but coming from Honda owners, it borders on being totally hilarious. What can you say about people who get a big head over being able to purchase a mid-priced import? Anyone with any class at all would probably think this more than a little insane.

I recently saw a thread in a Porsche forum where a guy said ...

"The only reason anyone drives an S2000 is because they can't afford a Porsche."

This thread seems to prove that at least in some cases, he's right.

You don't like the kind of people who are drawn to the S2000 and are too good and snooty to associate with them. Then buy a freakin' Porsche and be a snooty Porsche prick. The S2000 community isn't appropriate for you, becaue you do not fit in now, and never really did, becaue the S2000 has never been the kind of upscale car you believe it to have been and you're only fooling yourself. It's a freakin' Honda for gosh sakes. Get over yourself or get a car more suited to your "higher status in life" (because you obviously need the ego support).

The S2000 is a fantastic car regardless of who owns it. But, it is a little unsettling when you see owners ricing them out - then again, as of now its mainly the AP1s. But with the AP2s dropping to AP1 prices (and in 2-3 years iwll be worth what an 02' is now) - its inevitable. I don't care - I love my car, and I don't ever plan on ricing it out.

My favorite thing about the Honda S2000 from a perception standpoint is regardless of the enviroment, it fits in: The classiest restaraunt, local nightclub, cruise nights, the race track - its accepted and enjoyed by most everywhere.
