[QUOTE=gomarlins3,Jan 11 2008, 07:36 PM] The degradation of this site is another example of the downfall of the car.

I think because he said he enjoys motoring in the S after smoking some Thai Stick.

It's more about enjoying the S and the ability to enjoy the ride despite cultural and generational differences.

The S tears down boundaries and mends fences.
What's that I hear?

Kumbaya, my lord...

Takeaway points for everyone:
Snobs do indeed suck.
You bought a Honda, not a Rolls Royce.
It most certainly is a fun car to drive.
It will last.
It will depreciate.
It will STILL be a fun car to drive.
It will STILL only be a Honda.
You may pretend to be elite only when among other owners of small, inexpensive, affordable, and fun to drive foreign cars. (or small, inexpensive, fun to ride foreign car owners P)

The most important of all is this: LESS (TRASH-) TALK, MORE DRIVING

Great car for the money. Different people buy it for different reasons.

I think those that bought it as an indication of status are bent out of shape that young whipper snappers are able to afford it now. It happens. But it was never a status symbol, despite the efforts of many. It's a strange no frills vehicle that drives very well and is one of the last true drivers cars you can buy today. The difference is now you can buy it on a budget.

In my case, it has nothing to do with 'young whipper snappers', it has to do with the crap some of the new owners post here. The quality of posts on this site has plummeted over the past 3 years. This is just my opinion of course, but others have stated the same thing.

So the question becomes: is S2Ki loosing it's umph, or at least it's intelligence?

A: We've got greater numbers than ever before, and with those numbers comes the genetically challenged.

I got mine in 04 when I was only 17. I'll have to say I was one of the fewer young s2000 owners back then. I've definitely noticed the trend of more younger people obtaining the car.

However, just because I obtained the car at an early age doesn't mean I like to abuse the car or act foolish with it. In fact whenever I do see a young owner (some of my friends actually) I try to educate them as much about the car as possible .

I have only seen two "ricers" ever in the s2k. one was completely bondo'd up with no paint, horribly fitting body kit(inch wide gaps everywhere), and it was just all tore up. the other guy just drove like a idiot EVERYWHERE! he would cut people off amd ride medians just to try to race the civic two cars up.

other than that every other s2 owner I've seen has been very civil and proud owner. I am also 21 and purchased a brand new 07, the car payment Is worth every second drivng the car and being able to be a part of the s2k community(which is prob the second best reason for owning the car!)

... and that's the thing. i can't blame the lack of intelligence on age, because many of the new members in our community are young, smart and truly great automobile enthusiasts. As a matter of fact, I would say in recent years our local community has grown and attracted better and more qualified members. It's only when I venture into S2000 talk that I read the garbage that so many complain about.

But I think it's due to raw math. Let me explain: I would say there has always been at least 5% idiot to enthusiast ratio on the site. To keep this simple, I will use simple numbers. Let's say that 7 years ago we had a membership base of 200, so we had roughly 10 idiots. Let's say everyone had a 2ppd. That's 20 moronic posts per day. Today we have 2,000 active members. So given the same idiot ratio, we have 200 moronic posts per day. The raw numbers have grown, but has the percentage? I think it's fair to say that's at the very least debatable. As the numbers grow so does the outrageousness of the posts. The idiot factor continues to move to new benchmarks.

Therefore, it may be a problem of shear size and not the fact that the car is cheaper that is causing the perceived degradation of the quality of this site. I still believe that there are great resources here, and at least on a local level a superb group of quality folks with a shared interest.
