S2000 needs a new Motor. What to do?
No timing belt in our engines so you can skip that. Set the valve lash and install Billman's TCT while it's sitting on a pallet -- you can do these and save the labor cost (and your back from not bending over the engine in the car). New OE clutch and bearings will extend the life of the car. OE hoses seem to last forever. Rubber gaskets in the valve cover turn to stone so replace these when you do the valves. Spark plugs are cheap.

Just got word back and the compression is at 270 for the “new” engine I’ll be having installed in the S2K. Everything Chuck said is all I need to buy and that’s it? Lmk guys just want to soak up all the info I can and start buying parts to begin the build!
All right guys here is what I’ve bought from what my mechanic has told me and from various other opinions from other people.
- OEM Thermostat with Gasket
- NGK Laser Platinum Spark plugs
- OEM Water Pump
- OEM 3 piece Clutch with AP1 Flywheel
- OEM Front crank oil seal
- OEM Rear crank main seal
- OEM Valve cover gasket set
- OEM Drive belt
- OEM Oil Filter
- OEM Honda Antifreeze
- Amsoil 10w30 Oil
That’s it for now but I’m considering also buying Billman’s TCT. Let me know if there’s anything else you guys recommend while the engine is sitting on a pallet!

Seems to me you are doing the right things. Exciting to see someone take the good advice given here to replace rather than rebuild. Good luck with this. If your mechanic is not s2k experienced, maybe mention to him the conclusions here about difficulties pulling engine from top.
Given that the car was raced, best to give all the other systems a good inspection as well.

I appreciate that thank you! I love this community and I genuinely appreciate all the advice people give me. I don’t know everything and I know will never know it all so I’ll keep learning and soaking as much knowledge as I can for me to tell our next S2K friend or car friend! My mechanic is a NSX guru but I’m not sure if he’s pulled an engine out of an S2K before. I have a lot of faith in him but I’ll mention some things to him as well. I also need to have my CR Front Sway Bar installed. Might do the CDV delete since I’m having the AP1 Flywheel in!
Guys the build is finally done and OMG what a huge difference!!! Car feels so much more alive now. I haven’t been in the canyons yet to test out the sway bar up front but I feel the front a little bit more stiff. Pedal feel with the AP1 flywheel is delicate but I love it and will take some time getting used to it. Car sounds much louder and not muffled. Thank you for all the advice!
