S2000 needs a new Motor. What to do?

If, as you say, the car has been raced and you are returning it to street duty, it might be a good time to go through everything on the car. Certainly, as suggested above, if you have the engine out take a close look at the clutch and consider throwing a new oem clutch in there. But, also examine the transmission, the dif, the brakes, and the suspension components. Racing can be hard on cars. If it was me, I would get all the mods off the car and return it to oem. I would make sure the top end of the "new" engine has all oem components, and I'd check and adjust the valves on the "new" motor.

It’s an 05 engine which is perfect. I need to know what exactly I need to buy because this is my first time ever doing something like this and I’m new to the scene. I’ll be doing research but if there’s any information you guys can give me that will help I would gladly appreciate it!

I've never pulled an engine out of an s2k. I have pulled engines out of other vehicles. Since this is your first time doing this sort of thing my only recommendation is that you set aside PLENTY of time for the project. Don't rush. Don't work when you are tired. Be patient. Be methodical. Be organized about where you keep and how you label every bolt that comes out and goes back in. Don't have a deadline. If you have a friend who has done this sort of thing before, ask for some help. Its a big job. People here will surely help you along the way. But, there is no substitute for being there on the job helping to solve all the little problems that will crop up along the way. Good luck with it. Sounds like a great winter project as long as you have a warm and dry garage.

Get the service manual.

Videos I've watched show the engine/trans coming out the bottom so this is very complicated and not a one man job in your driveway. Seems very difficult getting it out the top.

The Speed Academy guys in Toronto put an engine in their S2000 (maybe a couple of times).
. Once there you'll have to look around for how they pulled the engine.

Drop the engine with the subframe...easiest way with a lift. Trying to get it out of the top...good luck. You will virtually need to strip everything off before it even remotely coming out.

I've watched a lot of youtube videos about pulling engines out of the s2k and yes it appears that coming out the old fashioned way - from the top - can be a bear. I wonder though - would it make any sense for the home mechanic to pull the transmission off the motor from below in the normal way, and then take the motor out from the top?

That's how I would do it, however I don't need to drive the car often and can take my sweet time with it. I also don't have access to a lift and don't think I can safely lift the car high enough to drop the subframe with the engine.

If you go from the top, removing the tranny is the only way....and even so, it'll be a pain.

Hahhahaha I forgot to mention I have my mechanic taking out my bad engine and putting the good engine in. I just want to know what parts exactly I would need to buy to to have the S2K running fantastic. Also things that would be nice to buy and replace since the engine is already out. For example, I’ve heard replace the clutch, timing belt, etc. I appreciate your guys help seriously thank you so much I love being apart of this community!!!!
