S2000 - not the fastest really

Dude are you serious?! The S runs 0 - 60 in less than 6 secs and runs the 1/4 around 14. Good drivers have run the 1/4 in 13.8 +/- 0.1 (unsure on exact time). Did you even research the car before you bought it? Those stats you posted don't even come close to keeping up w/an S!!
S2000s can put down 5.5 0-60 all day long with a decent driver. On a good day with a good driver, the numbers get better.

Indeed.
In the example, I assume I am in the lane that will remain on the merge.
The truck in in the lane that vanishes.
Since I am already in the merge lane, and he is not, I am fine with him merging behind me as we leave the light. In fact that is my preference.
The key is you are neck and neck at green and all you have to do is keep him from getting clearance off your front bumper to duck in before 100 yards of string run out.
However, I do not want to become embarrassed when he engages, then I engage, then the S loses. I'd rather give the spot away feigning non-interest than humiliate the S and myself being zonked by a truck. Alternatively, I don't think a reasonable answer is that a person needs to be counting the light like a drag race against a truck to ensure the outcome. It's a truck. A sports car should be able to react to a truck slightly after the fact and kick arse.
I'd rather not play the hand unless it's a winner...and with the S, it might be a winner, and it might not. Perfectly appropriate up odds against another sports car. Terribly inappropriate against a 3 ton double cab pickup truck.
FYI - I love the S, it just never kept up with the times, and in my opinion would be perfect with factory, warrantied, hp improvements.

Looks like you need a 4.5 sec 0-60 car to make that on ramp.
Honda S2000: 2.15L, 240 bhp. ~$30000 or $34000 CR
(note: roughly equivalent straight-line performance to current mustang GT)
Porsche Cayman: 2.7L, 245 bhp. $49,400+options
Porsche Cayman S: 3.4L, 295 bhp. $59,100+more options, $70k is common
And I believe the Z4 3.0si is 255bhp, the Z4M for ~$50k msrp (forget how much lower they go for) has 330bhp but both carry a bit more weight.
While the stock S2000 no longer outperforms the Boxster S/Cayman S / BMW Z4M cars, it's still a similar performance package to the Boxster/Cayman/Z4 3.0si and at a considerable discount. Honda's performance wasn't updated, but neither was the MSRP.
And for the tuners:
Honda S2000 w/Rotrex high-boost: 360whp/~400bhp. ~$40000 installed with clutch & cryo-treated differential....i like this solution the best, so i'll be saving for FI. Alternatively, a 400bhp C6 can be bought for about this much.
Anyways, the non-S Boxster/Cayman and non-M Z4 owners get the same deal with the V8 pickups and minivans. (Maybe that's why they don't race much!) But if it's a big deal to be able to smoke every "typical" car, you'll need to spend the extra money ($40k and up) and go for a Corvette, Cayman S, Z4M, or FI. But 12 second diesels aren't unheard of, and this 89 4 cylinder dodge caravan is my absolute favorite. So even then, you still can't blow by every truck or van. IMO it really shows that horsepower is cheap these days, although the cost for performance in the broader sense continues to climb.

Buy a crotch rocket if you wanted to smoke everyone
Dont buy an S2000 because you thought it was fast.... in a straight line.
Thats quite an ignorant decision when looking to buy one, and disregarding what its DESIGNED purpose was for.
Look at it this way, you can always mod to your fit and still go top down

Maybe he doesn't have his stickers, bet the ITR had stickers.
Seriously, I'd have fun even with less HP so long everything else is the same, especially the trans. Running through the gears with the top down gives me a boner.
