S2000 - not the fastest really

But for $40k, I still like the rotrex option better

The barrier for me is I don't want to void my warranty. But if it came from the factory?
I'd be all over it.

I own a 2000 S2000 for 4 months now. before i had a 98 integra type r with i/h/e and some smaller mods and that car was really fast for what it was.
after this i got the s2000 and i have to say i am really disappionted. it doesnt only feel slower than the itr it is slower. i dont notice vtec kickin in almost at all unlike in the b18 integra. i tried to understand the car and to give it some time, but everytime i drive it fast and hard its just disappointing somehow. it lacks something, not sure what exactly. just doesnt feels so aggressive and fast. i expected really more of this car. what is your opinion? are there some people out there who feel the same? or others who think completely different? would be interesting to hear your opinion about this....

I ran 14.01 in my 2000 on a 90 degree day after a 100+mile drive and no cool down time...WITH A 2.2 60' because I didn't really want to launch it. I'd say that's pretty impressive. The only "power" mod is a V2 intake. I never drag race either...so I'm not the BEST at it. I just went because my muscle car friends were going. I'm sure I could have run 13.7 with a good 60' on a cooler day....even if the car wasn't given down time after driving there.
You can definately notice VTEC crossover in an AP1. I used to have a B16A hatch with an intake (LOUD crossover..but nothing happened) before I got my S2000. The S2000 was dramatic.
It sounds like maybe your air filter is clogged or you have some other tune up issues maybe. How many miles are on the car?
The car was also never meant for drag racing. Drag racing in an ITR is probably a little easier than an S2000. Get the car on a real track. You'll find out it's faster than the ITR by more than a lot.

I traded a heavily modified 03 Mustang SVT (Cobra) for my 06 S2000 and while the Stang was much quicker (accelerating), it was not as fast (top speed), and came no where close to the Honda's precise handling. Anyone can stomp a gas pedal, but learning to drive on an open course takes time and practice.
You see, in 5th and 6th the motor is over 100 percent. When the motor is under wot, it is generating a bunch of heat causing the pistons to expand into the cylinder walls. 03-04 cobra motors have a .001 piston to wall clearance.
Try stomping the pedal with IRS and 500+ lb ft of torque and tell me it's easy.
The S isn't fast now compared to what else is out there. In 1999 when they hit showroom floors for the first time, they were one of the fastest things around a track, along with being the most fun car to drive under $100k. I wasn't happy with the straight line speed either, so I'm boosting mine. If you can't appreciate the car for its strengths and limitations, sell it and get something that makes you happy. Try an Evo or STI (<-- if you like 3 hour spark plug changes).

Actually with all due respect, I think the driver is way over his head and pretty irresponsible - considering the amount of traffic that was on the road.... Even if all his exits were meant to have the tail out - there was always the threat of ice or sand that could make him slide more than he anticipated.
I'm sure he's a good driver, but I wouldn't want to share the road w/ him.
Talking like a grandpa now.
