As for the tape thing that kinda threw me too. But look at pic from one of our sponsors :

Doesn't that look familar? Same radio! So you bargin hunters, pop over to the accord people dumping their radios for aftermarket ones. The wiring is the same so it would drop in. Remember they have a steering wheel controller too so that would interface with the dash controls as well.

Lucid, did you also get the 2002 speakers to test. I wondered how they pass power to the tweeter. Do they use a simple in-line capacitor, an external crossover, or is the crossover in the head unit? If it's in the head unit, could this have a negative impact on aftermarket component speakers?

If you have a chance, can you take a close up of the '02 tweeter out of the housing? I just ordered an '02 and am starting to think about audio upgrades. If you have to take the door apart, don't bother only if its convenient.
