...end of the day, its up to you.... I'd tell you, if its a possible scenario, to get a cheaper commuter and keep the S. I drive an '07 Civic as a DD and keep my S for the weekends

My suggestion would be a 90s Honda Civic. I have one and while it doesn't get the mileage of a Prius I still average around 37MPG in the city, plus it will be significantly less expensive to insure, maintain and purchase then a Prius.
A 96-00 hx could do about 45-50 mpg combined and it costs less than 5k in perfect shape. Don't be suckered into how much money you'll save with a Prius. You'll spend over $30,000 to save $1300 per year. Do the math. It's not a good idea. Plus, the Civic will last longer and parts are by far more available.
This is my suggestion as well. I have a '93 Honda civic that I bought 4 years ago for $800 with 125K miles...it now has over 164K and I get 40-45 mpg highway...I have had to put maybe $500 into maintenance and repair work I've done myself in 4 years but it has saved me around $3,500 in fuel savings over driving a car that gets 20 mpg.

Driving a lot of Zipcars when I was in NYC, I actually liked the Altima Hybrid over the Prius. It felt least like a "hybrid" with smoother transitions. Prius was ok but very disconnected feeling. The newer Insight was kind of crappy.

But just thought I'd throw that alternative out there. Although I think the Altima hybrid is regional and may have been discontinued. Prius would still be cool if that's your thing. Maybe the Prius V if you need the space?

The instant MPG in my TL drives me crazy. It's like a game to get it as high as possible.

i dd a yaris and wouldn't like it as my only car. get a late 90's to early 2000 honda and use it as a commuter. buying a prius to save on gas is like spending $100.00 to save 5 bucks

No way to a Prius! Just keep the S and get yourself a cheap 96-2000 model civic for a daily like others have mentioned. Best bang for your buck!

Your call. I wouldn't make the switch but, obviously, YMMV (literally and figuratively).

If costs are some of your major reasons then make sure you're look at TCO as well and not just cherry picking items to make you feel better.

Or you could keep some of your balls and get a CRZ?

CRZ is a 2 seater. Go for the Prius if you like it OP.
Really? Didnt know it was a 2.
If you don't even know the basics about it then why are you recommending it?
[/quote]

Obviously not a sincere recommendation. But i would at least personally consider it.

A Prius is on the mind...
Reasons our
-4 seats instead of 2
-no more premium gas cost.
-save over $1000 on gas alone annually according to how much o spend now
-save about $279 annually on car insurance
-51+ plus mpg
-more space and leg room.

What do you guys think? I love the s2k but it might be time for change. I'm willing to give up the thrills for the practicality.
I know the Prius isn't the prettiest car, or sportiest but it does get to point a to b more efficiently.

I'm with everyone else suggesting a 4dr civic. You get your 4 seats. Gas might not be as good but with the savings buying the cheaper civic you will still come out ahead in terms of fuel cost. You would save even more annually on car insurance getting an old civic. Overall everything would be cheaper with a civic.

I got a 1993 civic, and while its pretty beat up, it does its job. $150 insurance for 6 months. 35+ mpg. Cheap tires (13").

One more vote for a '90s Civic. My daughters had a '98 EX 5-speed and with the windows down and the roof open, it was almost like a convertible. Cheap to buy and maintain, great gas mileage, more fun to drive than most vanilla sedans, and if I'm not mistaken, at about 100k miles you don't need to plop down another $10k for replacement batteries. With the price of an older Civic, you can use it as your DD and keep the S for a weekender giving you the best of both worlds.
