Impossible to know? Not really. There are ways of getting around things.
FYI: Is there a 2.2 motor that goes to 9,200 RPM? Yes. It's in America. You can guess where.

'06? '08? Aw crap. I really hope they stop making these cars. If they keep cranking these babies out then their value is just going to go down. Plus i'll start seeing them more and more. Don't get me wrong i love this car, but one reason i bought it was that it was a rare car on the road. That and its limited production would help raise its value.
Not that I would not like to buy another s2000 in 2008, I just like being the only person within 100sq miles that owns this car (seriously, I live in MS
). I love getting stares from people of all ages. It gives that feeling of having some sort of exclusitivity (if that's a word). On a sunny day with the top down and a fresh coat of meguires making the sun pop off a glare at every angle I'm suprised I havent caused any accidents on the highway
I LOVE THIS CAR. And would love for it to stay as limited a production as possible. I like how they dont MASS produce it, and how only a few will bare the winters in a roadster (if it's a daily driver...Like mine).

The car was not redone for '04.
Refreshing is adding something small, like the 02 S2000 with the tweeters, or the 01 with the windscreen, or the ring around the tail lights. That's small. When you have a stroked ENGINE, that's not the same.
Because you are young (S2ki-3 days) and haven't been around:
An 8% bigger engine (2157cc), different gear ratios, new susspension improvements in interior space and features and the most dramatic styling alterations the S2000 has seen since its inception.
When you look at the averages, the more typical gains on the high cam are closer to 20 hp - still quite substantial for an engine rated at "the same" 240 hp as the early models.
How did Honda get these large gains? Well, yes, the displacement does count, but there are other factros to consider. Lower revs usually means that proportional gains due to displacement are reduced. With 8% more displacement, we would have expected about 17-18 more hp if peak power was made at the same rpm. With the 300-400 rpm reduction in that peak that we see on the dyno, we'd expect to see the gains drop to 7-9 hp. Where did the rest come from? In our opinion, the secret is in the mixture and ignition timing. While we didn't map the latter, we did datalog A/F mixtures and compare them to earlier models.
Enjoy guys...I'm not going to argue with a 3 day old guest. Accept denial. It makes you a stronger person.
