BC, could you please tell us what you do know. some of us who are trying to decide what year to get would really appreciate your help. is the 2.2L 9000 running well? he hasn't given us an update in awhile.

thank you
The 2.2 9200RPM is only a "TEST CAR" They will never release it. The point of the 8K and stroked motor (gears) where to increase the lack of torque that the consumers were crying over. The 03< is fun, 900RPM. The >04 is faster, easy to torque in and out of turns. Both has its ups and downs. If you have a previous model, add gears to it, and you're set.

So you think that both of these cars are the same CC, Litre, and output?
Refreshing is adding something small, like the 02 S2000 with the tweeters, or the 01 with the windscreen, or the ring around the tail lights. That's small. When you have a stroked ENGINE, that's not the same.
It was absolutely a freshening up of the car. Putting a 2.2 liter engine, new bumpers and a couple or other things didn't make it another generation. Generations are typically defined by changes larger than this, usually to an underlying platform. Look at the first generation Miatas. They freshened that up in 1994 by switching the 1.6l engine to a 1.8l amongst other things. The second generation started in 1998 when much more changed.

An upgrade sure, not a generation change. The Acura NSX is still first generation after 15 years. That also has a different body pieces and a different engine.

Because you are young (S2ki-3 days) and haven't been around:

An 8% bigger engine (2157cc), different gear ratios, new susspension improvements in interior space and features and the most dramatic styling alterations the S2000 has seen since its inception.

Enjoy guys...I'm not going to argue with a 3 day old guest. Accept denial. It makes you a stronger person.
The length of time I've been on this board means nothing. You seem to be trying to infer that the 3 days I've been member here are the only 3 days that I've even had an idea what the S2000 is. Or known anything about cars in general. Couldn't be further from the truth.

The freshening in 2004 is not a new S2000 generation. You're free to think it is, if you want. But it's still Gen1, with a few teaks to spark interest in the model after some slumping sales. It's the oldest trick in the book (and it works). Honda does it, BMW does it, Ford does it, GM does it, ....

And like another post in this thread, I agree that the NS-X is still Gen1. It's received some new sheet metal bits, wheels, and engine changes over the years, but it's still Gen1.

This is funny. "Refresh" vs "redone."

Anyway on a serious note, what I'm really interested in is what is Honda's view of the reaction the 2.2 engine has had in the US. Do they see it as a big success? A dismal failure? If somewhere in between just what do they really think? Keep things the same? Time to come out with a 2.5 liter 7000rpm engine? A 2.0 liter 10000rpm engine? Or something entirely new like a bigger bore 2.2 liter 9000rpm engine?

I'd love to know what Honda's view of the reaction to the 2.2l engine is too. Unfortunately the most important statistic... yearly sales for this car in various markets, isn't readily available to us. Without that data, it's just conjecture.

i believe the 2.2 was only in the US...and there was more sales in 2004 than in 2003, but it was marginal i believe.....i'm not sure having the 2.2 garnered more sales than the 2.0......i bet the cosmetic changes and different rims had more of an impact.

and the AP1 to AP2 change was a refresh....cars get tweaked all the time....yes they put in different engines during the same generation ALL THE TIME.......BMW 328 becomes the 330i.....doesn't mean it's a new car.........
all this is subjective anyways, evo 8 -> evo 9 probably has less changes than AP1 to AP2...go figure.
thing is, Honda never claimed this to be the 2nd generation of the S2000....if they did they woulda gotten laughed at.
