it does turn off, just listen to the compressor and you can hear the clutch engage and disengage.
yea i was also gona say it turns off at WOT too...if my 2000 TL does that i would be surprised if the S2000 didn't...

also, in summer i drive w/ the AC on at like 2-3 lights and then when it cools down maybe 1-2 lights. unless it's REALLY hot outside, i haven't noticed too much difference..but that might be because I don't even bother trying to go fast in the heat w/ the ac on cause I already know what will happen?

Yup, slower than a Miata even. But don't make fun of miatas on this forum, they are held in high regard, even though they are incredibly gay.

would it break the compressor if you leave it on when driving spiritedly?

I love that you can hear the idle rev higher when you turn the headlights on. It's just a weird thing that reminds me a little bit to think about how cars actually work.

I use A/C in my car maybe 2 times a year. I have a high tolerance for heat and humidity growing up in Houston, TX. Unless it's over 95 with high humidity my windows or top are down, A/C off.
jesus christ bud you are crazy. i live in houston...unbearable w/o ac

Unless his profile is wrong he lives in Virginia now. I am betting it's not "H town hot" there. Houston has it's own special kind of heat. I lived there for a few years, I could never go back. I don't mind mid 90's+, as long as they are not in Houston.

In VA, August is almost unbearable. Very hot and super humid.
