Where at? In the UK, the LS430 retails for 56,000 pounds, which works out to only $104,000. Not even half of what you said.

I'm not doubting you, I'm just curious as to which contries are actually selling quarter million dollar LS430s.
No, these are not UK prices, these are Irish prices. The UK has always been significantly cheaper than Ireland, mainly because of the tax differences.

I'm not sure what the laws on importing a car are these days, but I remember about 20 years ago, if you owned a car outside the country for at least a year, you could bring it back to Ireland tax free. But that was a once-in-a-lifetime exemption. My parents' friends brought back two Mercedes cars from the Middle East, and sold them used for at least a 100% profit over what they paid for them.

It is about a weak dollar guys - which is good for us buying things from you!!

Also the taxes are high - especially in UK - 17.5% VAT (Sales tax kinda thing)
"weak dollar" is a matter of motive and perspective. Currently we want to sell ... and the world is buying. Our roadmap for peace is a devious one. But that's all I should say. What's the first rule about fight club?

17.5% sales tax?

Sounds about time for you guys to hit the reset button on your government and join the free world.

Im British - and now I live in the US! Can anyone guess why???

Actually it is estimated that 10,000 people a month are leaving the UK and around 80% of people would leave if they could.

The government is a mess and it is dragging the country down.

I bought an '02 in 02 for close to USD60k
I ran the car for 2 years and sold it for USD40k

I came over here and bought a brand new '04 for USD30k

Does that put the euro into perspective?

POlus I got fed up of spending close to $10 a gallon on gas

An S in Australia costs $AUD80K on road.

That's $USD62,833.81.

That has nothing to do with strong or weak dollars as the conversion rate works both ways. It is because of taxes, tariffs, duties, levies, stamp duties and any other word the powers that be can use to take money off you for no good reason.

Actually it's so we can protect our automotive industry from collapse to imports. Until recently we exported very few Australian manufactured cars. There are some exceptions we would rather forget (Ford Capri/XR2). But I'm sure if you look under the carpets of a Pontiac GTO you'll find some Kangaroo droppings or something.

[QUOTE=KenS2K,Nov 20 2004, 05:04 PM] Read the US constitution and take it to heart. Many don't these days and even scoff and mock at those that do. They that don't listen to what its lips and tongue have to say will in the end only feel the bite of its teeth.

The issue, IMHO, is not *NOT* reading the Constitution, it is being consistent in your interpretation of it. Be "spirit of the law" or "letter of the law" but not both at the same time. Mike
I advocate people reading it because 99% of the people I meet can't even tell me what it says. If they don't know what it says, they surely don't know its spirit. Many live with the false impressions from their public school indoctrination and popular catch phrases that get passed around as gospel.

Sort of like religious people that haven't read their bible. On one hand they believe it's true. But on the other hand they don't know what it says. Or only remember the fortune cookie verses they like. But completely skip the hard to understand or the ugly ones.

We're a melting pot. Not an all you can eat buffet.

So. What you are saying is that your government is raping you... but it's for your own good? Huh?!?!?

Another tyrannical government whose prisoners need to hit the reset button it sounds like to me.
