I haven't read even to the bottom of page 1 yet, but I would like to comment on this thread.
Most of the people on this board are dumb asses...who cares if he can or can't, should or shouldn't, recommended or not suggested...it's his car...let him do as he please.

Update: I towed my boat many times last season, and many times this season (before the boat was stolen). The only thing I've had to do is replace my clutch over the winter. Of course, the clutch had >50K miles, dozens of autocrosses, and several track days on it. Even at that, the clutch disk looked almost new. The only reason I replaced it is because the pressure plate was so weak, I couldn't shift hard without it slipping.
I also towed a >1K lbs Uhaul trailer about 800 miles on the interstate.

I think people were just concerned about exceeding the manufacturer's recommendations / guidelines.
At the end of the day, it's his car, as long as he doesn't harm anyone else, who cares. But I don't think name calling either way is justified.
