If you check the dictionary for "tow", you'll see that it is towing.
Well sure, the sissy dictionary...

Technically yes, it is towing, but going 2 miles and only going 30 mph and not even hauling the trailer on a public road is to me NOT WHAT I CONSIDER TOWING.

To me towing is strappig down the S, hitting the expressway at 72 mph, and driving for hours. Or hooking up a trailer or a boat and doing the same thing. It would seem to me, for what you are doing, a small tractor would be a WAY BETTER idea.

To each there own, I would never subject my S to that work.

So dead-bird, what make of trailer is that and how much does it weigh? Might be handy for a top down road trip to the west coast.
There are lots of brands of these little trailers out there.

Here is a huge listing - http://www.campingearth.com/teardrop/

Weights are typically under 1,500 pounds.

If you don't want to consider it towing just because it's not a big truck pulling a small load (S2000 on a trailer), then that's just fine. However, the speed limit on the public roads that I used to get to the lake is 35 MPH. I really doubt it would have been any less illegal to use a tractor.

I am so getting the Magical Titan that does that gas mileage

I happen to agree with you though. I watched a guy move a 25 passenger, loaded bus a few feet today using a chain and a leather strap in his mouth. Did he tow the bus? Technically, yes. Does it actually count as towing, as we all come to think of it? Not really.

Gernby, You've gotten another utility function out of your car so kudos to you. As long as people don't head down to Uhaul and expect to load up a monster box trailer with thousands of pounds and move across the country in the S.

Most of you guys posted remarks are all assuming that you know exactly what's going on. Apparently, the OP had put alot of thought into it and knows quite a bit about force dynamics. My 2 cents for all the haters would be to shut up unless you've towed something with your S and can provide us with feedback on the negative effects. So far, the OP is the only person i've seen who has even attempted to tow something in excess of 1000lbs...so he's the only one that can give us feedback on the effects of towing something.

Everything else is speculation and assumption.

Kudos to the OP

Without reading most previous posts/threads, my first reaction would have been

...I probably wouldn't have tried it (call me wise, cautious, or a straight up pansy), but honestly, the first thing I thought of when I saw the first picture was the clutch work required to get that beast going. I'd guess that the OP calculated the proper weight at the hitch, so the boat didn't rip the hitch off of the frame (or lift the rear end to the sky!)...

I would say its a fun experiment, but not something I'd do regularly...

I wouldn't worry about doing it with my G though... j/k

some pics honoring the brave:
