I take mine to those self-wash bays, and if you don't pull the trigger (or whatever it's called), water and soap will still shoot out, under much lower pressure. But apart from that, what do you guys, without a house to wash it at, do to wash the S?
Take a bucket and sponge with you to the car wash. wash it there by hand.. then pull it out and dry it there. don't use the car washes brushes or an automatic car wash.

There's nothing wrong with sending the car through the soft cloth car wash followed by a hand wipe down and vacum? I did it a million times with my S and it was perfectly fine. In fact the place I took my car too only really appealed to high end customers. My S was one of the cheapest cars at the wash. If it's good enough for a BMW 750 Li then it's good enough for my car.

Also, be nice to the N00B, you don't want to scare her away. Remember what happened to cutiebonny.

The self washes aren't too bad, you can just not spray the seals hard with the pressure, but it can damage the paint if there is too much pressure and you have a paint chip (it can peal it).

But the machine ones that you drive through, with high pressure can be BAD, and if it is not touchless than you have dirty cloth and sponges grinding rocks and crap into your paint. Lovely swirls.

NEVER EVER TAKE YOUR CAR TO AN AUTOMATIC CAR WASH. YOU WILL GET SCRATCHES, DINGED AND DAMAGED WHEELS. AND THEY USE CRAPPY PRODUCTS TO CLEAN THE CARS. SHOW SOME PRIDE IN YOUR S AND DO IT THE RIGHT WAY YOURSELF. IF YOU WANT SOMETHING DONE RIGHT, YOU GOTTA DO IT YOURSELF. OH, AND BY THE WAY DON'T USE TERRY CLOTHS. USE MICRO FIBER CLOTHS. AND I RECOMMEND USING THE ABSORBER TO DRY IT.

Find a friend that has a hose. No one is so insular that they don't know a friend with a hose. I don't have a hose in my driveway, and my car has never been to a car wash in the two years I owned it and it gets washed 35+ times a year...

When it

actually the manual states NOT to use an automatic car wash -

if you don't have a hose - try Quick & Easy wash by protectall - this waterless wash works great!!!
