Qualify what you mean by "better". It's a highly subjective word and fairly meaningless without your specific criteria. Have you taken any test drives?

I haven't driven a CR yet.
I just want the best version of the car.
I love the way it looks, and the hardtop i can live with.
It will be garaged so i can probably keep the top off for a while since it will be inside at night.
It all depends what I'm able to find when I'm in the market for one anyways.
If i can find a low-mile -40k GPW 08/09 I'll go for it.
If not possibly I'll just go all out and look for a BB cr.

^^ I,I, if if

I've put over 30k miles on my '06(this year) going on my drives to the mountains and coast. If I had a CR I would have had to cut out over 1/2 of those drives because I need the top down(so does the wife). I might start out or end in the rain but its clear where I want to go, so a hardtop is NO GOOD for me.

Be sure what you want before you buy, for me I would hate to see the car sit in the garage because it was raining out side.

I agree. The CR is too rare to mod in my opinion as well. IF you plan to mod it, I would get a base model and if upgraded with the money you will save, the base model handling can greatly surpass it. As said my Moddiction, its a win win

If it's going to be your daily, I think getting a non-CR version would be better and then mod it to suit your needs. You can make it look and perform better than a CR. But if you like the look of the CR and can live without the soft top, get it.

Never really cared for the looks of the CR kit. I would just stick with the standard model and fix it up the way you want it.

I like the original leather seats over the CR's yellow stiched seats.

If your going to keep stock i say get the CR plus you can say you have limited edition s2000 which is always good, but if you plan on modding i would look for the cheapest, lowest mile s2 in your area

the only obvious reason i can see for purchasing the CR edition is because its more of an investment . its more rare, and in the long run will be worth much more then an base model s2000.

Stock AP1. Top up, 5 seconds, top down, 5 seconds. You can't go wrong. Limited market for the CR, unless that is your weekend desire to hit the track often.
