I would most likely pass on anything with more then 3 owners, unless it was in a rare color combination (GPW, or CR).
Or I would be checking it extra cautious for body work, abuse. I'm picky about these things.

Multiple owners is ok, 5 or 6 owners though.... Lol
And u really think your car is gonna be a collectible with that many owners??
So how does having multiple owners accelerate the depreciation of a car?

That's what I'm saying. Luckily our motors can handle being driven hard. Our glass rear diffs on the other hand.
I plan to keep my cars somewhat long term, so a S2k that has underbody rust from salt wouldn't make my "to buy" list either.

with the age range of the car being 7-15 years old, is it really that shocking? at 15 years old, the car changes hands on average of once every 3 years. Multiple owners isn't that big of a deal, how the car was treated over the years is.

I'm the 3rd owner of my 03'. First owner had a 3 year lease on it, drove it for 18,000 miles. 2nd owner owned it for 6 years and put on another 17,000 miles. I picked it up at a Honda dealer in February 12'. I've owned it for 3 years and have put another 11,000 miles on it for a total of 46,000. If I ever went to sell my car, the 4th owner would love the car because it's in great shape.

You have to remember, AP1's are getting old. A 4-6 owner S2000 is really no big deal. I'm not understanding your reasoning.

If we were talking about a 08' and it had 3 owners already, that's a different issue.

But why? If those 3 owners kept it garaged and only drove it on the weekends and it's bone stock does it really matter?

Seeing that primarily a sports car of any kind is a weekend car, they don't see a ton of use and are usually easy for the owners to part with if need be. I don't expect my S to ever be a collector car, but I'm also the second owner of it. So, I guess I'll modify my car to suit my needs and the third owner(when the day comes) can deal with it being a collectible.

I take care of all of my cars, the S gets extra care because it only leaves the garage for autox. ALso, this would depend on what is short term ownership to you.

Yea, a CR is going to be the only real collectible. And I couldn't see how anyone would buy an S thinking it would be a collectible, or any modern car outside of a high profile hyper car.

I posted links above:
2006: 5 previous owners
2007: 6 previous owners
2008: 4 previous owners
2009: 4 previous owners

That's a lot of previous owners. We aren't talking 2002 Ap1s.

The less hands touching the S2k, the better. Some people do not put premium in it when it's $4.00+ a gallon! but 87 or 89 or synthetic oil. When u have 5 or 6 owners to account for, that's a lot of "bodies" who u hope are maintaining it.
Even some dealers throw 87 octane in premium only cars.

That's a good point, but there's no real way to check stuff like that. Synthetic oil isn't a must but highly preferable. 91 octane or above should be the only gas this car sees.

Is there really any debate whether it is preferable to have a car with only 1 or 2 prior owners???

I mean... would anyone not gravitate toward the one previous owner car rather than on at a dealership with a lesser known history????

There may not be anything wrong with a car with 5 previous owners, but if we have a choice, I don't think anyone would prefer on that changed hand 5 or 6 times...
