Purchased bone stock, unmolested 2003 AP1 in May 2008 with 31k miles and a factory hardtop for $18k.

Sold hardtop and extra set of OEM wheels and blizzaks... $2600.

Current value with 57k miles, private party in "good" condition? $15,300.

Over 3 years of driving bliss needing only a set of brake pads and fluids for a depreciated cost of $100... SWEETNESS!!!

OK its been a few years, looks like prices are staying steady if not going up a bit.

Do we think clean low milage s2000's will continue to hold their value?

For example, I just picked up a 2006 Bone stock Mint 35k miles GPW s2000. in 5 years, lets say the condition stays the same and the mileage goes only goes up say 15k, will the car be worth more or less?

why not drive a car to preserve it for the next owner? makes no sense.

^^ Well, let me get my crystal ball...

Anything we conjecture is exactly that --conjecture. That stated, a specialty car like the S does seem likely to hold value better (yes, I'm conjecturing based on nothing but my guesses) than something like a Camry.

Adjust for REAL inflation the price is flat at best. Look at food and energy prices to see real inflation. Fuel has almost doubled in 'street' price since I bought the car, yet my dollar value is flat on my car.

If your dollar doesn't buy as much, it's not worth as much. 15K today is not the same as 15K 5 years ago.

The best case is you recover the same dollars you put in, but you haven't factor the value of money, cost to operate, etc. Almost all production cars are bad investments.

Rob2 is right.

No cars are investments ( ie offer a positive total return)

But if you buy the right car at the right price the 'negative" return can be minimized.

That's how I look at the S2000
