S2k or 2007-up Si?
Sadly, most kids won't realize this until they're financially unstable. To many, they're okay with the debt as long as they look 'baller' next to their friends. It may feel good driving an S2000, but it's even BETTER to drive it knowing you're debt free and didn't have to work paycheck to paycheck. Kids will be kids I suppose..

The whole engine and half the transmission are in front of the front axle.. not good for handling. STi's are one of the most overrated cars. It will handle nothing like a 50/50 weight split FR car with double wishbone suspension front and rear. Go S2000 all the way. Don't listen to one guy who sold his S2K because he couldnt drive it in the snow. I've heard people say dumb things, and a lot of people are bad drivers. They all think they're good, until they get to an autox, the kart track, or the road course and then realize they aren't even close to what they thought they were. You should be fine driving an S2K in the snow. Just be careful, and besides it will make you a much better driver because you'll know how to control your car in low grip situations.
You talking with the all seasons or winter tires? Like I said, I find it to be so costly and such a hassle(including the chances of receiving no snow at all during each winter season). With my SE-R, I am able to get around in snow just fine because I have a little experience driving in snow, but RWD and snow is really turning me off.
I just realized now that I am limiting and really bias-ing myself by choosing only AWD for my dream car when I graduate and get a good job. I still purely want for sure an S2000. It's just I got 1 1/2 or 2 years left in school and S2000's will be so worn out by then =(. Other cars I am considering besides the Evo/STi are the 2013 Genesis Coupe or BRZ.
Worn out in 1-2 years? Perhaps the early models, but most likely not 08 models. Cars dont change dramatically in one or two years unless they weren't taken care of. In that case the owners have already mistreated them by now.
By that logic my 02 would be worn out by now, but it runs and looks like new. Don't forget a lot of S2000 are stored for the winter months and then, only driven on nice days during the spring summer and fall. Just saying if that is your logic it doesn't add up in this case.
I just dont wanna end up like this one guy I saw posting on Autotrader saying he is selling his S2k because he needs something AWD. Sure snow tires, blah blah blah but I find switching tires every year to be costly and such a hassle(There's always the chance of no snow each winter season up here on the East Coast). Plus I just want a car with the capability of AWD also.
I live in an area that gets snow and ice storms every year and I have lived in both New Jersey and Colorado as well (so I know how to drive in the snow), and I'll weigh in. One of the reasons i bought my 4x4 pickup truck to supplement my S2K is because the simple truth is that if your daily route includes a hill of any kind, you can forget about making it to work after a snow/ice storm, with or without snow tires. its one of the reasons i got my second vehicle, after having to call in favors from friends for rides to work for a week while my car was stuck at my girlfriend's house. so to the OP, If you get more than a couple storms a year and live near a hill, i would consider the S as second car. I'm sure I will get disagreements on this point, but that was my experience. you're mileage may vary.
