This car was designed purely to offer its drivers one of the most incredible driving experiences ever found in any vehicle. And who could argue that? After all, it was designed by Shigeru Uehara who was close friends with the late Ayrton Senna.

The Si tries to combine performance/comfort/convenience all in one package and what do you get? Mediocrity in all of those aspects. The Si is many times better than a regular civic but that's not saying much.

I had a similar issue because I was considering between the S2000 and GTI, then I finally realized how dumb my dilemma was and picked up an S2000. As a 23 year-old college student, all I care about right now in a car is how good of a feedback it gives me while driving. It's an absolute BLAST to drive as I've mentioned before, and not to mention it's also quite rare. I've had mine for about 5 months now, and people who have seen my car can't believe it's a Honda. Also looks sexy as hell too!

If I were you I'd just get a beater car (if you don't already have a car) for now, graduate, get good job, and get a S2000 CR or NSX. lol. Don't waste your hard earned money on a car, that after all in the end, is just a civic.

Forgot to mention that I do have a beater car as well.
This sounds like a great idea to me. Dont get me wrong i love my Si, but no matter what, this man speaks the truth, it is still a civic.

Get a beater and focus on your education. Graduate, get a good job, and get your dream car and love the hell out of it.

Again, car payments are not something any college student needs to be worrying about (I think that is true for anybody, if I can't pay cash I won't buy it). Study hard and party hard for now.

Great advice. To those who say you only live once, well the guy is only 22 years old. Waiting another year or two isn't going to kill him. I have a feeling many people here are still in high school so it's easy to say go with the S2K. Great car, but it's not worth it if you end up screwing yourself financially, which will have a MUCH longer lasting effect. Use the money you save on insurance and spend it on a nicer S2000 later on.

I can't believe people are preaching about driving experience, being cool, looking sexy (car) and all that stuff over doing the more sensible thing. I suppose many people like working paycheck to paycheck.

I am not sure if you have considered this, but the total cost of ownership of an S2000 may actually be less than the Civic.

I say that because I firmly believe the floor for a clean, stock S2000 with lowish miles will bottom out around 10K. IF you can scoop up an Ap1 with low miles, for $13K or so, drive it for 3 to 4 years then sell it for 10K, you only spent 3K on the car.. minus insurance and gas of course.

But if you must take the responsible route and get a FWD econobox with some room, get a Mazdaspeed 3. That thing is so much more car than the Si is.

From experience because I had a Civic Si, then an Ms3 and finally ended up in the S2000.

The Civic is pretty much a joke in every aspect compared to the Mazda. Mazda is faster, roomier, handles better and has effortless torque.

My Ms3 was dead reliable for the 3 years / 50,000 that I had it. Best FWD car I have ever driven.

The more sensible thing to do is to buy a CIVIC for roughly the same price as a S2000? That makes absolutely no sense. The S2000 is all about being cool and having a good driving experience. What other kind of preaching did you expect to find on this forum?

Coming from a long line of integras, including an ITR, and a Celica GTS; I will never again buy a FWD "sports car" RWD or AWD from now on

I agree. Although I do love the Speed 3, it has way too much torque steer. If only it came in awd...sigh. To the OP, have you considered the older Subaru Wrx's? Like 2002/2003? This is probably going to be my next car as a daily. You will save a ton of money and have a great car that still performs very nicely.

...or an Evo. Either one would make a great northern car (snow drifting ftw).

Torque steer is overblown in my opinion. Grab the wheel with both hands and man up.

With everything else it does exceptionally well, that's about it's only flaw.
