i still don't understand how this could happen...it doesn't seem like it is raining and i'd imagine May wouldn't be too cold??? even in VA?

If you are interested in doing so, sometimes you can"buy" the car back from the insurance company, sell the parts for more than you paid the ins. co., make a few dollars maybe ?

Off topic, but yes slicks have more traction than grooved tires on dry surfaces. However, slicks are not equivalent to street tires that have been run to baldness. The compound may well be harder on the "inside" of the tire; regardless, the tires' performance would be negatively affected by the high mileage and heat cycling necessary to run them to baldness.

Driving along, gradually accelerating in first gear from a stop light, shift to 2nd around 30-35.[not a power shift] Just happened to shift when i was in a mix of gravel, rain, oil, and the S02's. Turned clockwise about 100 degrees or so, hit the curb was lifted into the air, then hit a tree behind the driver door where i was turned about 30 degrees counter-clockwise. Then I landed. Perhaps, partly driver error, but the elements got the best of me.
