S2K to CR-Z...anyone else?
I test drive any car before I buy, so I can't say I'd buy a CR-Z or not, but based on what I've read, I'm not keen on the car, and if I was driving 100 mi/day, I'd probably buy a 3-5 yr old car that gets good mpg and drive that into the ground.
I was driving 100 miles a day in the S for about a year and never thought twice about it. I got 26 mpg on the highway average and 30.4 when I kept my foot out of it. I don't think 100 mile commute justifies buying a car that doesn't even get that great gas mileage (it's also ugly and slow).
**** the CR-Z. Why would you spend 20k on a car to save 'gas' in your S2000? Doesn't even make sense.
Just buy a cheap Yaris with a manual transmission or some beater and like someone else said: drive it into the ground.

Well I would like to make it run as a plug in hybrid, which many ppl have done with prius's and insights. Running like that I will be spending a substantial amount less on energy to get to and from work, about 2.50 per day vs. about 12 dollars a day for gasoline. My goal is to only have to pay for gas on road trips or really busy days.

Let's do the math... let's say you spend $3 a day vs. $12 a day getting to and from work.
That's 5 days a week x 4 weeks in a month x 12 months in a year.
So that's $15*4*12 = $720 a year saved.
If you run the CR-Z for 5 years. That's $3600 saved in 5 years.
Now weigh that $3600 vs insurance cost for a new 2011 CR-Z, the cost of financing it, taxes (which alone almost negate the $3600), etc.
If you do the math, it really doesn't make much sense in the long run. Hell, it doesn't make much sense at all. Spend $3-5k on a beater and call it a day.
There's really no way you can spin it to try to prove that it saves money. It doesn't. It's a huge waste of money, and all it'll really accomplish is saving wear/tear on the S2000.
Ok, have you driven it? There's really nothing exciting there. For half the price you can get a Civic Si or RSX Type S that'll blow it out of the water in terms of styling, performance, etc. It's your money, do what you want. But don't think it's anymore exciting than a Prius or base Civic. It's a boring commuter.

So you're going to buy a brand new car, modify the drive-train and completely waste a good warranty? Forgive me, I'm not trying to be a douche but your logic just seems all over the place. You want to buy a brand new car to replace your s2k as a DD, but then you want to do things that would completely void an important (especially on a brand new model / car / plant) warranty, in the name of saving money?
Sounds like you're really not thinking this through. Don't get me wrong I'm not knocking you for wanting the car (I thought that noblesse picture was HAWT), but the reasoning for doing so seems all kinds of backwards. Given the platform, the S is a perfectly capable DD in terms of MPG if you drive it like an economy car.
Your money, your decision... the logic behind it baffles me though

Making it a plug in Hybrid is really just an ECU modification that can easily be un done. Other than that are added batteries which can probably be removed with no trace should I have a problem.
