I just returned from a week-long vacation in which I drove my new '03 down the California coast (via Hwy 1) from San Francisco to San Diego, and from there I took I-15 to Las Vegas. The return leg was via I-95/374/395 through Death Valley, Owens Valley, Mammoth Lakes, and finally Hwy 120 through Yosemite (Tioga Pass route).

In all, I added almost 2000 miles to my odometer. I have to say that I found the S2K to be more comfortable and less tiring on a long drive than my Honda CR-V. I think this is because you are supported on all sides so that your body doesn't need to constantly shift around to get comfortable. I'm 6 feet and probably weigh between 250 - 275, and with the exception of a little lower back stiffness, I found long stints in the driver's seat more than comfortable.

On the desert runs I used cruised control so I could position my legs in various ways. I also kept the top up for most of the desert driving, as the daytime temps were unusually warm for late October. And the smoke from the So Cal fires didn't help.

Regarding noise and engine RPM's at cruise, it didn't bother me. I recently installed a pair of S-Pods and new speakers in my roll bar hoops and I now have no problem hearing music with the top down at freeway speeds.

For the 2-lane twisty parts of my trip (Hwy 1 and 120 through Yosemite in particular), the S2K is an absolute thrill! (and I'm a really conservative driver who rarely exceeds posted speed limits unless it's safe to do so)

To sum up, I am really pleased with how the S2K performs as a long-distance ride. I wouldn't hesitate to do the trip again.

During the two weeks between Oct 13 and Oct 28, I put on 4669 miles during a trip from Dallas to San Francisco and back. The weather was perfect so I had to top down every day. (Used earplugs to protect my hearing from the wind noise.) Got 26 to 32 mpg. Had an awesome time and look forward to doing a similar trip next year.

I have a 91' Mr2, and it has the same center console as the s2000 minus the cupholder. I was so happy to see there was another car that i could rest my arm so perfectly on. I couldnt have it another way now. Arm rests perfect right up to the shift knob.
