S2K owner to be - 5 days and counting!!!!! + Snow tire Q.
Just sealed the deal on an '01 S2K. Bye Bye '98 'Lude. The dealer reminded me of Brando in their making me an offer I could not refuse. BTW, car is silver on red/black interior, 5 miles on the clock. Price = 27,700 out the door. Anyway, I wanted to introduce myself and ask a quick question. I plan to buy snow tires immediately. Anyone have a POV on Blizzak MZ-01 vs LM-22? Other options I should consider instead? Nokian Hakkas? Thanks!!! Looking forward to top down, music blaring in the spring

Use the search function on this, it'll keep you busy for a while. I bought Toyo Garits but don't recommend them. They've been good on snow/ice/rain but they are not stable in VTEC (dry roads naturally: ) ).
Enjoy.

This is my second season with the MZ-01s, and I'm quite satisfied with them. They've held up a lot longer than I expected, and I'm sure I'll get a third season out of them without too much of a problem (although not if I keep tearing them up around the corners like I have been ). The grip is excellent in the dry cold, and seem to hold fairly well in the slush. Haven't hit many patches of ice (knock on wood), so can't vouch for them there, but they do well on packed snow.

I'm on my second year on the Blizzaks and I think they're great. I live in NY and have a 1/4 mile long driveway with switchbacks going up a hill. I've always been able to make it up in the snow. I once plowed through my unplowed neighborhood with 5" of snow on the road!

First off congratulations on your new baby and a heck of a deal you got for her...wow. I wanted silver on red but I would have had to wait till this coming June to get it. Couldn't let that happen. I have had Blizzak LM-22's on since early November and have over 3k miles on them. Definately excellent snow tires. I believe (may be wrong though) that the major difference between the LM-22's and the MZ-01's is the speed rating. I think the LM-22's have a higher rating (139 mph max). Either way the Blizzaks are amazing. The grip on ice never ceases to amaze me and they do extremely well in snow provided it isn't much deaper than the tread depth. You should be fine unless you plan on driving in over 3 inches of snow. I wouldn't doubt the Blizzaks ability in handling that though either. Any way you decide to go you get an excellent snow tire at a very competitive price. I have yet had a need to put any extra weight in the trunk which is a miracle in itself considering what I've had to drive through somedays. As for other snowtires the Pirelli Winter Ice snow tires are on the same level with the Blizzaks. I've heard (can't confirm since I have no experience with them) that the Dunlop Winter Sports aren't near as good as the Pirelli and Blizzaks. Hope this helps and again, congratulations on the new stook.

Brad, which Blizzaks do you use? The LM22s or the MZ01s? I am thinking the MZ01 are the safer bet, but will be worse on 90% of winter days (ie. w/o snow+ice). Other consideration is to try to get through the rest of this winter w/o snows by borrowing a family members car, or renting....
THEN...use the OEM rims for snows next winter, and buy 17" with summer tires next spring once I wear out the OEM S02s this coming year.
