Just to give out some numbers: the stock throw as near as I can measure is 80mm+/- Mine currently is 60mm+/- The stock knob will be 30mm lower.
I will have a plastic bushing to mate with the boot. It will mimic the standard shape.

Interesting someone making their own shifter. That's a chore for a one off part. Must be a shop owner or CNC operator. A Ferrari gate means you have too much time left over. You need a night job, if your close, call I have one for you.

I am not trying to steal the thread but I have made my own shifter for the S2K (that is my car) and it looks allot like the one on the right of the photo. There is no added vibration in the shifter but the boot will have to be synched up to hug the shaft.
I am not using the boot, I went all out and made a Ferrari style gate shifter and plate

Subscribing to this thread with interest. I remember when I first put a B&M shifter into my 240SX. It certainly made the throw of the shifter shorter, which was good, but what I was totally surprised at was how it completely eliminated the rubbery feel. That alone was completely worth the price of admission on that mod. I could feel everything that my tranny box was doing through the stick. The shifts felt super solid and you knew exactly when the shifter was in gear or not. The S2000 stock shifter is light years ahead of my old stock 240 shifter, but if that stick could be tighter, I'd be interested. Richard, keep up the good work.

Chris.

I will post pics when I am finished with the project. I will start a new thread on the subject so as not to disrespect Richard Paul and hijack his thread.
I will be showing it off for the first time at the Honda Grand Prix of
St. Petersburg, on April 3. The local S2KI group was asked by Honda to do a parade lap with a celebrity passenger in the car only 12 of us are getting to do this and I am one of the lucky ones. It will be on ESPN starting at 3:00pm

I'm with you, Chris. Last night I took the infamous RED MX5 out for a drive, and it was almost impossible not to notice how much the shifter felt like operating the bolt on a fine rifle. The throw is way longer than the S2000, but the feel makes shifting easier, more accurate, and faster. Like the top latches, the S2000 shifter falls short of what Mazda was doing way back in 1990.

I'm definitely up for a shifter improvement. Amazes me that so many reviewers have raved over the S2000 shifter. I guess the short throw seduces them, but there is WAY more to a good shifter than just the throw.

Richard Paul, please PM me when you're ready to ship product.

Well, I don't know about a fine rifle. Maybe an old rusted out WW1 service rifle. My 240 doesn't have synchros on first, and the synchro on second is almost done. But I will say the shifter doesn't feel like a spatula in a bowl of cake batter either.

Pity I didn't see this thread the first time around. I would have lobbied for a bent shifter - the S2000's is placed too far forward, perhaps for people with shorter legs.

It is possable to bend this shifter anyplace you want on a custom basis. There is no rubber bushing in it so you can heat and bend it yourself after removing the polimer parts. You then snap them back on.
